I'll give it a shot. Could be dirty air filter? But with 6k miles it seems far fetched.

The dealers don't trust any other shop's findings anyway. No matter what it says on the indy's dyno, when you take it to Porsche dealer, convinced there is a problem, you'll be starting all over. And then it will be even more maddening if Porsche denies there is a problem, even when you know there is.

Yeah, I agree. I wouldn't expect Porsche to care what an independent dyno says. But at least it would give me the confidence to say, "Something IS wrong. Keep looking until you find it. Don't tell me everything's okay because it isn't."

I'll figure it out. One step at a time. First I'm going to look at the air filter and spark plugs even though it's hard for me to believe those are problems with 6K miles! Maybe it's the quiet exhaust that's fooling me.

That's how I feel. You can always mod a car to adjust a given performance result like acceleration or cornering, but you're unlikely to get back to the quality of complete package that they started with. Of course they had a performance target for marketting and segment purposes, but for instance if you put the S turbo on a base, you'd still get less power until you tuned the ecu, but it'd be more laggy until you adjusted the throttle map and maybe other things, and ultimately you'd spend more money than just buying the S to get a product that's perfectly adjusted and integrated by people who, even if you assume they are no smarter or capable than your tuner, are able to spend a crazy amount of time getting the parameters right once and then replicating them over thousands of cars.

Interestingly there are so many posts about base being better than S.

I drove a base and an S back to back at the dealer's and while base is better than 'expected' and happy revving and by no means lacking, it is no S.

You can definitely feel the power difference between the two, and I felt rather cramped when accelerating with the base.
There's that feeling of 90%... not close enough to that 100% full satisfaction blast.

Less turbo lag on the base? Not really, both have turbo lags, but very subtle on sports mode, nevertheless no difference between the two.

You do get to use more revs on the base and may provide a little more fun and more of that intake noise and turbo noise.
They both sound so sweet, I like them better than 911.1 engines.

So my conclusion; I reckon even GTS would be noticeble power improvement over S.
disclaimer not just because I am waiting for my GTS to be built

I have a 991.2 C2 and haven't yet driven the S, but the larger turbos in the S would suggest slightly more turbo lag, though you might have to go full throttle at 1500 rpm in 7th gear to find it.

Also, the S has slightly shorter gearing with a 3.59 final drive ratio versus 3.44 in the base car. That should mask most of the additional turbo lag.

One final point about increasing the power of the base engine. There should be plenty of margin here, as 370 hp from a turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder isn't very much. The BMW M3 makes 435 hp, the Cadillac CT6 with the twin turbo V-6 has 400 hp, even the new V-6 in the Panamera S develops 440 hp--from 2.9 liters.

I think the base C2 can safely stand a 50-hp power boost, or more, if anyone can properly crack the code in the engine management computer.

Default Base vs S

i also test drive the base and the S 991.2 back to back on 2 different days. Bought the base. Could not really feel the difference on open roads. So if you do not care about RWS and bigger brakes I would go for the base.

Just to correct the record:

Porsche is the one that owns VW, over 50% or voting rights and over 32% of the VAG equity

The funny thing is that the Cayenne saved Porsche and now they, VAG, is the largest automobile seller in the world. But, now the Cayenne, and the other diesels are going to cost them dearly

We love our cars but there are 3 cars that saved Porsche in tough times and none of them were 911's...
