Default Resetting your oil maintenance reminder

Since I try to do as much of the maintenance as I can on my own, I am not able to ask the dealer to reset it as a favor. When I used to bring my car in for warranted items, I asked them to reset it, and they always have. Now that it's out of warranty, I had to look for an alternate solution. But, I didn't want to spend almost $300 to to that. I stumbled on this from ICarsoft. It arrived today, and 10 minutes later, the annoying reminder is gone. But, now I know why it requires us to use a tool to reset it. It needs a date input to signify when the service was performed...I guess. No, I don't work for them, nor do I get any kick back from them, but thought I'd share since I think it benefited me. Cheers.

Thanks for posting. Thinking of getting one. What year is your car?

Does it do all the same things as the Duramatic? What is the cost?

Yes, it does. It scans, and resets other things, as well as, turn off the seatbelt reminder chime, but I haven't tried any of them yet. I got it from Amazon for $192 with free shipping. You can go on there to see a complete list of what it can do.

The maker's website says it's only good for cars up to 2014 Can I use this on a 2016 GTS?

Your car is still under warranty so I'd ask the dealer to reset it every time you bring it in for warranty work like I did. Then, once it's out of warranty, this device will include 2016 models, plus it would probably be cheaper by then. 😀

Nice find! I'll pick one up, when my warranty and maintenance plans expire! As you said, it will probably be cheaper a couple years from now.

Great! Report back soon and let us know how you like it. I definitely like mine but will probably not need to use it again until next year when the service light comes back on.

There are 3 service reminders (minor, intermediate and major) on my '09 Cayman.

I wonder if this allows them to be reset individually like PIWIS does?

Durametric does not and they have been "working" on this since I brought it to their attention almost 18 months ago.

Eddie what does the Durametric do then? Reset all three at once or only the minor?

Will do, however mine just went out of warranty and I won't have a need to reset the warnings for some time to come, when I do my 1st oil change. Up to this point the dealer has done all service work.
