Tail of the Dragon
Just got home from a 641 mile single day road trip w a buddy who took his 991 C4s coupe and me in my cab, to the dragon & back. It was really awesome, exactly what these cars are designed to do. We even had a little snow on the edge of the road. It was 46F to the top where we had lunch at the dragon's den grill & pub, and 59 at the bottom on the return. Loved it all. We both thought it was more fun & probably as helpful in Practicing driving skills as a DE track day. And we saw less than 10 cars which all pulled over for the 2 Porsches and only 1 motorcycle. The busy season starts this weekend, so glad we went now! Put it on your bucket list if you can. I want to go back in the fall. Left the PDK in auto and used sport mode and pasm. Car performed perfectly.

There are some really beautiful roads out that way if the tail is not your style.
The last time I was on the tail in my C4S I had to pull over so my passenger could puke.

Love the area. Been going in sportscars since 1995. It's gotten a lot more crowded on weekends, but still manageable during the week. Sounds like you picked a good time to go!
By the way, did you ever think you'd see a time when a 911 could make a Vette sitting next to it look small???

Awesome!
I drove the TOTD in my 997 C2S and my Cayman S......beyond epic road in a great setting. I also really enjoyed (as im sure you did too) the roads to and from the Dragon itself. Def a bucket list item for a car guy

I'm still thinking about the "drive" this morning! We did pick a great day & time of year to go. Redbuds in full bloom & spring (1st full day to be accurate) in the air, and low traffic. Thanks for the replies. I am looking for pics as there were at least 2 companies taking pictures and giving us a thumbs up as we went by. This pic above is at the scenic overlook that we stopped at on the way down heading north. And yes the roads leading to the actual 11 mile TotD are also very nice. I will be back!

My wife and I are picking up our car in Atlanta on Thursday, stopping in at Porsche Experience Center, then heading to Asheville.
Friday morning we are visiting Biltmore and then heading to Waynesville then down to Highlands, over to TOTD and back up to Walland.
Then on to Knoxville for the night. Saturday drive home to IL.

Lucky man, no way would my wife drive the TotD! She would not be happy and most likely get sick, even doing it at the posted 30mph speed limit. Good luck and have fun.

Ditto. I wouldn't think of it in a million years. We have a house in Highlands and just taking the standard route from ATL to Highlands needs to be done in her SUV at a crawl for the mountainous part. Talk about putting a wet blanket on the TotD fun!
