Default My First Water-cooled 911

My first Porsche was back in 2003 when I bought a Guards Red 1989 930 Turbo. I was stupid at the time and bought more car than I could afford. I paid $27,000 for the car in April and sold it for $32,000 in September. I was proud of myself for actually making money on a car, clearly I had no idea how much they would be worth today.

Fast forward to 2014, I bought my second Porsche, a 2014 Aquablue Metallic Cayman S. I originally was looking to buy a 996 TT but fell in love with the Cayman when my dealership convinced me to drive it. I've really enjoyed the Cayman, but I kept wanting two things: a back seats for the kids, and a 911.

So yesterday I traded in the Cayman for a CPO 2014 Agate Grey 991 C4S. Wow, what a car. All along I really thought the 991 was just a Cayman with the engine shifted backwards a couple of inches, and a pair of back seats. I was completely wrong. I'm amazed at how different they really drive, and I'm much more impressed with the 991 over the Cayman. I was afraid the 991 would feel like a truck compared to the Cayman, but honestly I can't believe how small and agile it feels.

Well, I'm sure you all know how wonderful these cars are, so without further ado here are a couple of pictures. I included one of the Cayman as well as it deserves the respect.

Beautiful choice. Love the Agate Gray. I went from a Cayman to the 911 as well. I have no regrets on the choice, but they are absolutely two different beasts. Like going from a Sports to a GT Car in my opinion. Best of luck with the new ride.

Beautiful rides, congrats! If I may, would you still make the Porsche journey in the same fashion? Cayman then 991?

TIA

Honestly it's a tough call. The Cayman is an amazing car and very easy to drive fast. It almost seems too easy, and makes you feel like a superstar. But it also has a bit of a "toy" feel to it, where the 991 feels like a more serious and substantial car.

For me, I would rather spend the money on a nicely equipped Cayman S/GTS that I could afford versus stretching for a lower spec 991. But if you can easily afford the 991, it's well worth the extra cost. Granted I've only had the 991 for a weekend, but it didn't take long to feel the difference.

In the end, both are amazing cars and both need to be driven to understand. And you need to drive a lot of the variants (Cayman S/GTS, PDK versus manual, 991 S/4S). They all have a different feel.

Congrats on your lovely 991

Don't be too bummed about the 930. I have a similar story where I bought a '98 C4S Aero, daily drove the crap out of it for 18 months in the Northeast, and 'only' sold it at a $750 loss back around 2010. It's worth at least twice as much now if not more. (Glad I kept the 993TT .)

Please post more pics when you get a chance of your niner.
