Default Pricing on 991 & 991S

I'm helping out a friend in search of his first Porsche. I'm not as familiar with the 991 as I am with the previous generation 911's. (I've owned 4 going back through 993).
Is there a year to steer clear of?
What does $60-$70k buy?
Is the PDK as solid as the current PDK? (GT series PDK)
Differences between the S and standard?

Thanks in advance!

The 991.1 years starting at 2012.5 to present are solid. No issues overall. VERY reliable. Best $ deals are the 2012.5/2013's with CPO's.

PDK is great. No issues.

$60-70K will buy you a lower MSRP S model and lots of base Carrera's.

Difference between an S and base model?? Easy to look up. Google is very helpful. One thing. +50HP 3.4L vs. 3.8L flat 6's. Upgraded brakes, and PASM standard on S modes. S usually come with 20" wheels too.

991 is a pretty solid car from the start with little or no known major issues. The 991 is hands down the best platform. It is in fact to good because of the limits imposed on a novice driver. While very fast im not referring to the strait line performance but the handling of the vehicle. Both the base and S are great cars but the S offers a substantial increase in suspension and engine tune. I believe it's well worth the added premium.
Also believe at your price point you may be able to attain a 2012.5 s vehicle and maybe a higher mileage 13. Can't comment on the pdk as the only type of transmission I drive is standard. Good luck with your search.

Check out stickie on top of page. Lots of educational info and deals listed in "hot for sale". Few hours of reading there, and you'll be very informed.

My advice to your friend would be spend time researching the various options before looking at individual cars. I'd say most 911s come in the range of $10k-$50k in options and they make all the difference, so trying to generalize on pricing without going into the options is a waste of time.

Go with an S. Honestly I was looking at 997 turbos and 997 GTS, then I realized I could get a 2012/2013 cpo carrera s optioned out in a similar price range. I looked up all the specs and ring times, reviews, and when it comes down to it if you keep these things stock ish they are comparable with more live ability an lux in the 991 corner. Hell I have even found 991 at around 60k, I think it's pretty good bang for the buck considering 996 turbos and 997 turbos can go well past 50k and 80k.

Was thinking of originally getting a cpo 2013 s6 or s7, but for another 10-15k you can be in a sweet newer 911 and can be dd unless you need four doors. I've got a 2008 cayenne GTS and I, debating keeping it or trading it in. Would be a nice stablemate.

cn: want a 991 GTS, but a S is a nice compromise and better bang for the buck when optioned well will surprise you coming from a 997 s or even gt3 minus the rawness.
