Default Another set of P-Zeros down.

At 16,759 miles on this set of P-Zero's they are dead and this weird pattern developed on one of my rear tires. Has anyone seen this before?

I probably drove on these a few more miles than I should have and they let me know it.

I'm thinking these are "WTF are you doing" indicators since the driving experience went down hill quick the last hundred miles.

Car is C4S w/SPASM and PDCC.

I'm on my first set so I have no basis, but while the wear pattern seems odd on the outside 1/3rd, your wear indicators aren't even being touched. What psi do you ride in your rear?

Rear tire on comfort PSI setting 33 psi.

I think the rears wore pretty evenly. The fronts have a little more meat left on them but not much.

Wow, I thought comfort was more like 40 rear, but I have mine at comfort/ "full load" to help protect my wheels on our crappy potholed roads. 34 sounds more like a track pressure to me. I guess I'll have to do some research and make sure I'm not over inflated! In your most recent pic the wear looks a little more even.

I usually run with the little car-puter telling me I'm at +1 psi all around.

front 30-31 / rear 33-34

I think you need some more -ve camber on your fronts ...

Here's where I'm at from research on RL.

Comfort: Tire pressures 31F/34R cold -- 33/36 hot

Those patches resemble melting from excessive tire pressure.

17,000 miles on a set of 911 rear tires is great. I'm happy with anything over 12,000. I needed new rear tires last summer at 16,000. Some here are getting 20,000.

Take an exacto knife, and cut into those blisters. What do you see? Probably almost corded, is my WAG.

Did you happen to notice if that was comfort normal load or comfort full load? I think there is a 6 or 8lb difference depending on the computer tmps setting you use. I'll look later when I'm in the car.

For the C4/C4S the Full Load/Comfort is F30/R39

For the C/CS the Full Load/Comfort is F31/R40

I did drift the car a few times knowing the tires were giving up the ghost. I could see this burning up the outer edge.

This is my C4S tire history so far:
1st P-Zero - 9,314 (bad alignment from factory/cupped/noisy/frustrating)
2nd MPSS - 18,086 - even wear/quiet right up to the end
3rd P-Zero - 16,759 - even wear/not as quiet as the MPSS at the end
4th P-Zero - I could not wait for MPSS got a good deal from Tire Rack

It looks like the area of the tire that is abnormal could have been caused by small contact patch from excessive tire pressure. This could impair heat dissipation under hard use. The OP has now posted that he was drifting and if tire pressures were high, the contact patch (limited by high pressure) could have melted down. I have melted P-Zero's at the track using pressures that should not have resulted in the melting.

Quick Reply: Another set of P-Zeros down.
