There is actually a more logical reason for the test drive issues with Corvettes. There is a much different profile around the cars and because of that there are a lot more people that want to joy ride them. The problem is that some dealerships have over rotated and are refusing test drives to the wrong people.
Just find the right dealership and you will be able to test drive whatever you want. I recently test drove a Z28 Camaro and was offered a test drive of Z07 which I declined.

I've seen the same and been confused by it but the "joy ride our expensive car" logic doesn't check out. They're happy to hand you the keys to a $70k Yukon or a $50k Silverado. Those guys are used to moving high volumes of corvette-priced trucks, it must be something else.

Another factor that separates a Chevy dealer from a Porsche dealer is pricing policy. Never seen an additional $20,000 dealer markup on a Porsche.

I'm still confused from the business perspective, but I'm sure the owner feels this policy is most profitable. I just can't understand his logic.

That's part of what confuses the hell out of me. I showed up in a $60k MSRP Tahoe. I also failed to mention in the original post that I didn't even ask to drive a new car. I told them (before I could tell a test drive was going to be a problem) that I'd be happy driving a used Stingray so they could keep the miles off the new ones.

Kerbeck, on the other hand, is the largest Vette dealer in the country and easily knocked off several grand on an ordered car. And happily let me test drive one.
