Shorter gears for the 991? Anyone done it!
Was wondering if anybody knows of anyones making a lower gear set for the 991? I don't know much about it, but was wondering what it would take. Or if its even feasible!

my "best guess" - since the manual is based on the PDK box, this is probably not as easy to do as previous manual boxes have been (most notably the G50 in the pre 991 GT3's)
best guess is that you could change the final driver R&P to a shorter ratio...

Mmm interesting. Thanks for the response. I would love to have a little more low end umpfh. Without going to the new car lol No puns to new car people. Its either find a reputable place to do it or lose some more fat. I know 20 lbs will help Haa~!

A shorter R&P might solve this; I'm personally not aware of any shops that have cracked the PDK box and changed internal ratios, I'd search the 991 GT3 forum to
see if anyone has done it over there...

Right on! I will search the forums like you suggested on GT3. Kinda like that auto start stop function. I would love to have that gone and put a laser button in there for texting drivers.

you might reach out to Matt at Guard Transmission, I think his experience with Porsche transmissions would uniquely equip him with the knowledge to be able
to advise you... if he can't do it, or doesn't know of someone who has done this
I doubt that it can be or has been done (at an acceptable cost)

I would think the final drive would be the place to attack! Guard has made diffs for 911s for years...I am sure there's a solution there but the questions would be cost and compatibility with electronic systems (ie PTV)?

Agree that guard transmission is the shop to speak with about this.
Stratocaster, is your car manual? Although the gearing is the same between manual and PDK, It is much easier and realistic to install lower gearing in a manual 911 compared to PDK, because you would need to reprogram the computer for PDK, and that is hard for anyone to do and have it work well. Even Porsche would spend a decent amount of R&D time with their engineers to change how the computer responds to different inputs with different gears.
Long story short if you have a manual 991 and want lower gearing--talk to Guard Transmission
If your 991 is PDK and you want lower gearing---trade your GTS for a 991 GT3

Proper low gear ratios is one of many reasons I choose a 991 GT3 over a 991 C2S/GTS. It adds so much more "umphf" to the car, even beyond the extra HP included with the GT3.
