991 S Cab vs 981 Spyder?

I agree with you this was true of earlier generations of 911 cabriolet, but dont forget that the 991 cabriolet now has the same roofline as the coupe

Yeah they did fix the shape of the roof, but I still love it more in Aqua Blue Metallic. I also got tired of worrying so much about parking under trees or birds or getting dust worked into the canvas or whatever too, I just love the coupe as a DD even though I really miss the convertible sometimes.

Sometimes I feel like Porsche got their model positioning backwards, like the more expensive model should be the powerful mid-engined roadster that you baby in the garage and take out on the weekends, and the less expensive model should be the rear-engined 2+2 that's comfortable and great as a daily driver.

looking at it another way, and with limited resources as a tiny family run firm vs goliaths in the industry back then, if they had chosen to build the company on a 718 type retail street/ trackable car in the early 60s , they would have been long gone before man landed on the moon !
you can't reverse history !

911 history, profits, sales and branding ambassador status drive everything volume sports car related ...so their mid engine model should be and is company heritage -consistent and less expensive ,more nimble ...like a 2 seater 550 or 718 which inspire it vs a more daily drivable 4 seater 356/911

I just had my Spyder out to the track this weekend. I vowed to allow myself one track day, and then stay with my dedicated track car henceforth. Wow, what an amazing car. Of course I had some clue already, having put a couple thousand street miles on it, but I was unprepared for how awesome it was on the track. And I'm use to a caged track car with a 3 way adjustable race suspension, so it takes a lot for a street car to impress me in a track environment. I can only imagine how sweet a GT4 must be on track, with the extra Motorsport goodies. I've loved every one of the several 911's I've owned over the years, but this car is in a different league! In fairness, this is a brand new car, and my previous newest 911 was the 996 GT3 I sold a few years ago. Obviously newer cars are generally improved, so maybe not a totally fair comparison.

With kids the 991 is way way more fun to own. You are going to be relegated to solo drives mostly with the boxster, because you won't have room for the kids. Think about it, for grocery runs or pleasure drives, your wife is not going to want to leave the kids behind!
I enjoy taking my family out in my 991, as you probably would too.
We own both a 991 and a Boxster, and the 991 is used all the time whereas the boxster is more of a fair weather toy for the wife.
In summary, get the 991 or get both.
