4s v 4 -- dazed & confused
I thought a base 4 cabrio (2017) is fast enough with 370hp, -- vs 350 in my '08 4S. Thinking I should maybe spend the coin for the 4S.
Some say get the "S" anyway, especially if you're into reading ia Porsche blog!
Curious as to you opinions...
Thanks!

I went through the same process as you. Ended buying a 4S. My reasoning if getting PDK go for S, if stick regular.
My sales guy said, "That if don't get the S in six months you wish you had with the PDK"
Good luck

I just faced the same choice and chose the base in manual. I test drove both....did not notice any noticblw difference in pick up at all. I don't plan on racing and even in 0-60 it's only .2 faster. The base 911 is more than enough power for day to day driving. I just got my base and I couldn't be happier. Plus I liked the roar of the engine way more in the base. The sports exhaust factory option doesn't hurt

I had a 997.1 base and currently have a 997.2 S and a 991.1 S, all of them manuals. The S is $14,000 more than the base. If you tick off some options on the base that are standard on the S, you might end up with a $10,000 difference. It's worth it. Get the S.

1. The aftermarket should come in strong with compelling options for both the base and S motors, if you're inclined to go that direction.
2. The 991.2 turbo motor's increase in torque - especially lower in the rev range - should negate much of the perception of lack of torque with the base.
Dollar for dollar value, I think a base 991 is very compelling. I think the main advantage of the S over the base is the availability of sport package with rear-wheel steering.

I thought the only option on a base that is standard in an S were the 20" wheels.

I don't track my car and the big driver for me to get a 991.1 S was lower end torque (what there is). With the numbers and initial reports reflecting increased low end grunt I couldn't justify the price delta and even with my "gotta have it all" mindset I settled on the base .2 had I gone that route. The price delta was just too rich for me.
As always, these are Rennlisters opinions and YMMV.
Good hunting!

4CS is gatway to GT3....?
Make sure you drive the various versions/options before you buy, getting it wrong is painfully expensive. It happened to me... Bought a 2013 C4S..... loved it until a 'friend' let me drive his 2014 GT3 when driving home from RennSport Reunion this summer. This short drive utterly ruined me! A few weeks later after not being able to stop checking RL and other sites for GT3, I took the C4S to the dealer for an oil change and it turned to the most expensive service ever, when I traded the '13 C4S on a gently used '15 GT3.
I'm broke but have the car I should have bought initially.....
The C4S is good but the GT3 is GREAT

If I understand the question correctly, the choice is a base 991.2 vs S 991.2. If so, then the new base 991.2 is a completely different proposition than the base 991.1.
The 991.2 base now has almost as much HP and torque as the 991.1 S.....but importantly, the torque is developed much lower in the rev range on the 991.2. As a result, the base 991.2 is now just as quick as the 991.1 S.
In fact, my dealer is predicting that the take up of the base 991.2 vs 991.2 S will be much stronger because the performance of the base 991.2 is now very, very good. In real world driving, miles better than the base 991.1. Owners of a base 991.2 are now going to get a much bigger bang for their buck.
