"Take the Carrera S, for example. In Sport Plus (aka riot mode), it behaves like a hooligan on probation. Let it do its own thing in Drive, though, and the driving experience drops to the bottom of the excitement index. The car’s dual-clutch transmission automatically selects the tallest gear for fuel efficiency, and initial throttle response borders on dopey, so the car is transformed from an aggressive disturber of the peace into hush-quiet whisper liner."
my #1 criticism of the PDK transmission in normal and sport mode.

Advanced
I have had two 991.1 with PDK, the first was an "S" and the current is an "4S". I only drove the car in normal "drive" once, that was on the test drive. Once I owned the cars, I only keep it in Sport Mode and use the paddles or stick to do my own gear selection. I cannot imagine driving it any other way.
I like the speed of gear selection with PDK, that is why I gave up my Manual Tranny. Oh well, it is fun; more fun than a manual for me; especially on the track.

991 4s
Hello Gordy, just saw your post. I have a 991.1 4S with PDK as well, overall fairly content. But I noticed recently (because I barely drive it), that when you hit the throttle all the way from standstill, the car hesitates for a good 1 to 2 seconds before taking off. Very frustrating. You would think a car with this caliber would take off immediately. The needle has to hit about 3 to 4000rpm before taking off. Do you have the same issue? If yes, any resolution or just live with it? Note this only happens with hard acceleration, othwerwise no real issue when rolling from standstill. Thanks

Hesitation
Hello, my car is a 2013 as well. Beautiful car fully loaded and barely any miles. But this throttle hesitation may be a deal breaker. Did you ever get it resolved? I have an appt in 2 weeks w/ the dealer, not sure if it will solve the problem.
By the way, kind enough to share pros and cons with the 991.2?
Lastly, I too have a BMW 535 2012 and know EXACTLY what you were referring to about the turbo sensitivity. Some days it could be maddening and other days not bad. But somehow, even though it may be smooth and fast at times, I often feel disconnected with the car. There were many days I told myself I am going to sell it and sell it, but still have it since this too has barely any miles on it and hate to sell it and lose so much depreciation. I am afraid the 991.2 will feel similar to the my 535.
Look forward to your reply.

accellerator lag in 991 c2scab
I thought I was going insane!! I totally know what you guys are talking about, that almost stalled sensation when you press the gas pedal froma stand still or even really slow, it just stalls for a second and then jumps like crazy. I thought it had to do with dual clutches, since my 2012 M3 did the same thing. Anyone know if there is a solution to this?

Keith, there are several l-o-n-g, detailed threads regarding the delayed throttle response issue on this board and others. If you Google "hesitation in Porsche 991 acceleration" you'll find several day's worth of reading material. (Same issue also mentioned in last month's Panorama in the article on the Boxster Spyder.)

I have a 2013 535 X Drive and have to say that I haven't noticed much turbo lag at any speed. The car steps sharply off the line from a stop light and for a heavy car with an inline 6, races to 60 mp/h in under 6 seconds.
I have been test driving the 991.2 C2S and C4S and while others may disagree, I find the response to be even quicker than my 535. Now, some magazines and article writers may say there is some turbo lag (and maybe there is), but I wonder how that compares to waiting for a .1 car to get into its power band at 4,000 RPM. Both cars are waiting bit to make their maximum power - the turbo due to inherent slight lag and the .1 because it just doesn't have the torque off the line at 2,000 RPM.
I think both cars (535 and 991.2) are great cars with exceptional performance. For those who nit pick the turbo engines, you may find some slight lag; but for the vast majority of daily drivers, you'll hardly notice it and the low eng grunt makes the 991.2 fun to drive at slower engine and road speeds.
