Default Oil results

Just got my analysis back from Blackstone Labs. Everything looks great. Changed on an annual basis.

Interesting info, but I've never quite understood what you're supposed to do if certain parameters start to go wrong... oh, just figured that out: SELL!

Depends on the info and data. But to name a few:

Change oil sooner
Change oil viscosity
Change oil brand
Change driving style
Change air filters
Install magnetic drain plug
Perform preventive maintenance
Retest

Incidentally, what's the recommended interval? 10k miles or 1 year? What oil type do you prefer for daily driving with some spirited runs on the weekend?

Both. Every 10,000 or at least yearly if low miles. Per Porsche.

You bring up a good point. Blackstone is one of the main oil analysis companies that the airplane community uses with every oil change. In an airplane as unhealthy trends develop, the analysis is a warning tool. As we know different parts of the engine are made of different metals. As these metals become detected in larger volume, it warns us to investigate further, i.e. boroscope, tear down, overhaul. I am not sure there is any value in a street car application.

Questions?

What are the Porsche Engineering acceptable limits for oil parameters and contaminants?
What do you do if a contaminant is above a Porsche limit??

When I was Operations Manager for a Nuclear Power Plant, Oil Analysis for Rotating Equipment was one of my areas of responsibility. I had chemists/techs for analysis, Engineers trained in oil analysis and parameters from manufacturers.
Unless you have the above, you can't make a determination of what's acceptable, what to watch and what to do Preventative Maintenance on.
I think oil analysis is a waste of money for a Porsche..
I can''t beleive a Dealership or Porsche is going to do anything based on an Independant Oil Analysis
If you hand them a fist full of babbitt, maybe.

I'm trying to save you money and worry and not be critical
I have no analysis done on my Porsche.-Richard
