2016 991.1 Targa GTS being built while I type this...
I have been reading about the new 991.2 911s and it sounds like the incredible Porsche engineers have added more torque especially at lower RPMs, and have done more than an admirable job tuning the exhaust note. My dealer (better than awesome) told me when I ordered the 911.1 TARGA GTS if I didn't want it when it arrived I could pass and move on to a 991.2 Targa. I drove my wife's 2015 Targa 4S this weekend, and was reminded how glorious the NA engine is, and how even in normal (vs sport) mode there is plenty of HP and Torque. My strong inclination is to continue as to plan and pick up the 991.1 in January/February. I have to believe it will retain a good portion of its value?
Are you kidding me? His and her targas. It will be interesting to see if you can tell a significant difference in the performance with the GTS. Who wears the pants in this family? She got the first one but you got the GTS.

Less about pants and more about a flying unicorn moment....went in this summer to test drive a 911 GTS. Liked how the Turbo drove better but didn't think my wife would support that type of purchase so took her in to look at a GT Silver Turbo. As she test drove that I test drove a Turbo S on the showroom floor.
She got out of the Turbo all smiles. I was totally jonesiing for the Turbo S. They backed the Turbo and Turbo S up to the front of the dealership; as my wife left she turned and said "Get both...his and her's" I turned to my son and said "When life gives you a Unicorn moment, move quickly don't hesitate." Sales person advised 'if you are going to get two 911s, get the Turbo S and that white Targa on the showroom floor." Left with both - pants for everyone.
I love my BRAND NEW TARGA GTS........traded my 1989 Turbo fir this...and I am SOOOO Glad i did. This car is amazing...I never drive with the top on.......So fun and I know you will enjoy it. I will keep mine for another 26 years!
With the NA engine being cancelled I could easily see this car holding up really well vs an avg new 911 buy. I haven't seen many GTS Targas so that will help down the road.
You are living a unicorn life.. does it matter a few % either way.. you will be leaving a current 911 with depreciation so I'd say make the move and enjoy life on a new boat.

O man i saw that white targa at the Sunset showroom its amazing.
I drove her white targa yesterday (yes in the rain...it has been raining nonstop here...ughhh). and it never fails to put a smile on my face. something about the sound, aggression, and instant response of the naturally aspirated engine makes it a special experience.
