Looking to purchase a 991. Are some years better than others in terms of reliability?
I have had my 2007 C2 for a few years now. I have the itch again for a newer car with more of the creature comforts and a little more power. I will likely get a 991.1 since I don't have the cash for a new 991.2 I am thinking of a C2S or C4S. I live in the Northeast and do not drive in the winter. I don't know that much about the 991 model other than it spans the years of 2012-2015 I think. Here are my questions.
1. Is there a particular year or model to avoid due to problems?
2. Are there some must have options that you would recommend? I am thinking of getting PDK to start.
3. Is CPO necessary or worth the money?
I am sure many of these questions have been answered but I could not find too much on them with the search function. Thanks very much in advance. I appreciate your input.

I am not aware of any specific issues that were a recall or systemic type of problem.
Sounds like you have determined you want a PDK in C4 or C4S- next I would look at STG's
"Hot pick of the week" thread to find your next car.
CPO is nice to have- can sometimes be negotiated if buying from auth dealer.
My thoughts: SD steering wheel (esp with PDK),
Sport exhaust (although can be added afterwards), Bose radio, PASM.
Good luck!

Also, keep in mind the 9A1 motor in the 991 has been around since the 997.2 (2009). So you can actually go back a few more years and see the engine reliability pattern. Pretty stout/robust.

Took delivery of my '13 (January '13 build) and now have about 14,000 miles with no warranty claims/issues other than a recall piece on the driver's door hinge.

1/13 delivery on 2013 C2S.....replaced defective XM-Sirius antenna & replaced both tail lights because of moisture accumulation - both warranty.
No other issues in 18K miles. Solid car.

Yup. One of the best boards around..
Absolutely no difference in reliability or issues.
The most common issue is failing change over valves.
Remember that the auto-rev function was introduced at the end of 2012 MY (with Sports+).

Greetings.
No issues with my 2012 ½ 911s.
Mine was a CPO purchase in March with 21k miles and warranty coverage through May 2018. Current mileage is 24.5k and no service problems in my ownership.
Note: When I purchased the car, the Porsche dealer provided me with the full service history of the prior (one) owner. All service work had been done at the same dealership and was regular maintenance/campaign fixes. So the maintenance history of my 911 is good, which seems to fit the pattern of responses from 911 forum members.
I'm quite happy with the car, build quality and reliability to date, so I say go for it.
I would suggest CPO for peace of mind.
FWIW, I too am in New England and also purchased Tire/Rim insurance from the dealer, which has already paid for itself in 6 months of ownership with full replacement of 2 rear Pirelli P0 20" tires due to separate instances of tire punctures (screws in the road). Each tire would have been $640 to replace out of pocket.
Hope the above is helpful to you.
