First Thread. Happy to be on this forum coming over from the BMW boards ![Cheers](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/beerchug.gif)
Never owned a Porsche but fell in love with the brand when my best friends dad got a red, used 944 when I was 12. I still remember my first drive in it. I loved the acceleration and feel. It was also a car where one of the more embarrassing moments in my life occurred when he caught me picking my nose in the back seat on our way to soccer practice. I can still remember him saying "pick me a winner!". Good times!
Fast forward to today and have been blown away by the 991 and in particular the GTS. I am pushing the limits of conscience, having placed an order for a 2016 GTS Cab to be delivered in Feb 2016. It's pretty loaded and comes in at around 147k msrp. A steep price tag for my situation but I wanted to get back to that feeling I had in the 944 with a bit more kick
. The car specked out to my liking. Leather over Alcantera, PDK, remove GTS on side etc.
With that said, I am surprised how emotional this process has been as I've never come close to plunking down that amount of cash for a car. Most I've ever spent was 70k on an X5 which I got 12% off MSRP.
So to get a clear understanding on what I can expect the selling price to be and what the options are, I wanted to pose a few questions to the community: (if there are other threads I missed please share)
1) What is a reasonable % discount I can expect if buying from a high volume dealer? (I consider myself a strong negotiator when it comes to cars and usually shoot for 10-15% off MSRP). I know, I can hear the laughing as I type those numbers.
2) open to lease or purchase - any creative ways to get the best pricing?
3) Should I hold off and wait for more used GTS's to hit the market? I know this is subjective just want perspective on used vs new.
Thanks for the help!

Welcome! As noted above, I wouldn't place an order without knowing the predetermined written final price.
Most of the highest volume dealers many times have the worst discounting. Shop around. From experience, dealers in the not so hot Porsche sales areas of the country are most competitive.
For the GTS, this late in the model cycle, on a custom build, even 5% off would be fair. If you're lucky, 5-7%. Anything much over 7% isn't going to happen on this specific deal.
I'd iron out these details today. Find it hard to believe selling price has not been discussed? Some dealers are only giving 0-2% discounts!
Strong negotiators get a price in writing before putting down a deposit on a custom build. They have the upper hand here now.

Good question. I negotiated a discount on a 991.2 at 7% off MSRP. Changed my mind to go with a GTS after doing research and meeting with the dealer. No deposit was taken. No discussion took place on the discount for the GTS.

The GTS is already a great price bundle from Porsche. Especially for customers that already want the PowerKit and PSE. This would have easily saved me about $7k on my 2014 C2S.

well yes... you can walk away, but you would be walking away from 4-5 months wait that you "invested" and, more importantly, from the last NA GTS, if that is important to you.

Wow. I feel like I'm getting hazed here. There are 2 used and 2 new GTS on the market today, same color, and very similar in specks...There are always backups.

Im in the same boat, came over from the BMW boards not knowing what to expect on negotiations. I got 7% off my M5 in year 1 on top of my 7% ED discount but when I walked into Porsche I had 4% in mind for some reason, probably just from reading some posts and talking to some people. As much as they wanted to sell me the GTS, time wasnt on my hands because it was their last allocation for it and Manhattan Motor confirmed they sold their last one.
I started with my trade, and negotiated to what I wanted with my tax benefit then moved onto the GTS - they offered 3%, I said I wanted 5% and we were done.
I woudlnt get too hung up on what other people are paying, every situation is different. But if you are a good negotiator, whats the worst that can happen if u ask for 12% off?

apologies - I certainly did not want to "haze" anybody... I just expressed how *I* would feel in your situation... all the best - whatever happens I am sure you will enjoy the new car!!

That was my thought. Set the starting point at a higher discount while 7% discount would be the most I would pay. When I was playing the dealers off one another 7% seemed to be the max anyone would go on a custom build. It never hurts to play the game a bit more.
