Another Porsche that appears to be yet another car destined for investors and not drivers!!!
If the initial speculation of a 911R are to be believed---GT3 engine with classic styling SANS the wings---I am in love and know what my next car will be----wait----PORSCHE is going to make only 600 copies and all are presumably sold or will be sold to the same ultra rich that bought 918's and GT RS as garage queen investments---cmon Porsche.
I posted a topic about Porsche becoming Ferrari earlier this week---
Please Porsche keep making great cars that real people can enjoy, own, and drive----I am glad that Porsche makes halo vehicles---The 959, Carrera GT, and 918---all these cars existed without ruining their core business clients---911 owners...lately---each vehicle Porsche releases attracts investors---not drivers.

You're exactly right. The 911R looks like my dream car. It checks all the right boxes for what I want in a 911. Such a shame they're only making 600 of them. Hopefully down the road they'll make more so enthusiast can buy them too.

This sounds pretty close to the 2012 RS 4.0 which had the same production numbers and HP. From Car and Driver: "At $185,950, the RS 4.0 doesn't come cheap. But that didn’t stop customers: All 600 have already been sold, including the 126 that will be shipped to our shores."

Porsche doesn't really care if you are an enthusiast or not. They have one mission - to sell cars at the highest profit they can for the company. That is their ONLY mission. If they can sell 600 @ $ 250K they really don't care if you can afford it or not, regardless of how much an enthusiast you might be. They made it limited to cause a buying frenzy, its strictly marketing. Perceived value. They learned that from Ferrari, and the Italians taught them well. Its not like the car is hand-made, they could crank out thousands of them if they wanted to on the production line at reasonable (well, more reasonable) prices. Better to limit production and make them 'rare' so it will create buzz and showroom traffic, and pre-sell them all out. Smart. As long as you can keep 'em drinking the Kool-Aid, then serve up another pitcher.

And while I understand the value to the manufacturer of these halo cars I honestly believe that Porsche is making too many of them. I do understand the value of exclusivity but I believe there is a real problem in having multiple exclusive vehicles in your line-up at the same time.

Right now, anything "limited" and "hard to get" is selling like crazy. Capitalize on opportunities while the going is good. Until then.....

Their Kool-Aid will eventually be watered down a little too much.

I do understand, as do most of you, GT (category) marketing is centered upon limited availability. It is the selection-of-buyer process that riles the Porsche family.
What is equitable depends on perspective. If you joined the 918 Investment Club your membership should IMHO, grant you specific advantages over lesser model Porsche purchases.
To expect preferential treatment would be foolhardy, but Porsche could throw a bone with a couple of dozen cars via lottery.
As mentioned above, Porsche is a automobile corporation, not a public service organization. Optimism is low - hope is high.

Porsche is a master at at. Look at all the 911 variants! As long as you're hot and the economy is rolling it's all good. Once that gravy train slows down, you'll see big changes and cut backs.

and if economy ( stock market , really , for Porsche sports car buyers )
falls , Porsche is diversified now with , especially Macans , giving dealers much more breathing room than in years past
think about it...only short 13 yrs ago, the only models Porsche had for sale worldwide were the 986 and 996 ...both of which now are selling for $7-25k on the used market ...yikes ...they realy dodged a bullet , as the controlling familes were very close to accepting Toyota's offer to buy them out in the early to mid 90s when they were near bankruptcy but went ahead with the 9X6 program instead ..which , as unloved now in the greater Porsche community and marketplace for many reasons , essentially saved the company via its many readily obvious but neccesary at their dire development time of 1992-1995 cost saving build decisions , ironically
as we know, they did end up incorporating much of Toyotas assembly line car building technology and supply chain mgmt into the 9X6 that continues today
