Now THIS is a fun garage! I have to say I'm envious. I could get the Ferrari 599 now if I really wanted one, but would have to sell off my 991S to get it. I'm not really willing to do that - to me the 991 is the best car of somewhere around the ninety or so I've owned, but I would LOVE to have a 599 in the hanger to keep it company as you have.

My solution to the shocks would be to find something that would fit. LOL. I know I could. Might require some machining work to get one to fit, but there has got to be an Ohlins that can go in there and work, or something similar. I also have a few pals that are engineers for the major car companies, we'd see if we could take one of those OEM leaky jobs apart and rebuild it. There must be a work-around to that...

I went through this process for a bit for the 599 as the new V12 came on line and the depreciation/shiny new toy curve kicked in. the reality is there is a LOT to compensate for. not only the shocks but i'm told that the interior leather shrinks and doesn't stay put, the transmission (when working great) is much slower and less intuitive than even the DCT in the M-cars. of course the GTO is now in the upper 700s (or more?) but that was a very limited run car based on different architecture. the good news is that as long as gas stays cheap and the world isn't in crisis, you can expect that the curve is flattening out, still havent seen a reasonable 599 for less than 150 and the older cars usually bottom in the 100k area. thats not bad for a few years of excitement.

Right, and a lot of wealthy Chinese want to be driven and want a higher seating position to lord it over the plebs in Beijing traffic. Look at Lamborghini ...and it's known that Marchionne, CEO of FIAT, disagreed w/ Ferrari's prior CEO, di Montezemolo, about keeping production as low as it has typically been at Maranello.

My first post on Rennlist...

I've owned 6 F-cars (I even owned the same 599 on two different occasions) Four were purchased new. When I realized that part of my enjoyment of owning the car was hanging out with the people at the service department (who actually became my friends), I longed for German engineering. Just ordered a 991.2 Targa 4S.

Eh, while there are certainly shortcomings of the 911, it has always been the daily driveable sports cars. It appeals to reason and although the parts are expensive, you get the feeling that there was a lot of thought, engineering, and quality put into them. As far as $100k vehicles go, a 911 is about as reasonable as it gets given their general reliability and quality.

As they say with ferraris, you pay for the engine and get the rest of the car for free. Guiseppe looks the parts over between his pasta and wine, and decides that yup, it will probably work and what the hell, in the yellow box it goes, retail for $x,xxx. Dramatization of course, but ferraris have really no appeal to reason.

I owned V12 Ferraris for 30 years, from 1977 to 2007. I was never left stranded. The cars became progressively more reliable and less expensive to maintain over time. My last one, a 550 Maranello, was completely reliable. No major issues of any kind during my 10 years of ownership and 45,000 miles. I gave up on Ferraris when dealers asked for crazy mark-ups on 599s. Also, the 599 had become a bit too big and heavy for my taste. Went back to Porsche (during most of those 30 Ferrari years I also owned 911s and a turbo). In my experience, maintaining the 550 was only slightly more expensive than my 08 GT2 (tires and plug changes, but especially tires, were expensive on that one).

The guy who bought my 550 still owns it and is happy with it. Still going strong.

This didn’t age well as the kids say! Purosange to be revealed next week. I took delivery of my first new Ferrari a couple of years ago. Very happy with the decision. Have another new Porsche coming next month for the track, options are the best!
