They let the cat out of the bag when the new car hit the website. A link on there for Michelin.com too.

See tires?

Maybe this explains the shortage in our sizes? Ramping up for P-Car Production?

highly likely since I believe Michelin only have limited production facilities for the MPSS/MPSC2 etc and they would have to "prime the pump" for the 991.2 production

Ha! look carefully at the tire in those pictures - it is actually a Michelin Diamaris

http://www.michelin.ca/tire-selector...diamaris-tires

I am just a little surprised they let that one by on the configurator.
Perhaps when you take delivery of your 2016, check the sidewall details before you go ripping around that first on-ramp!!

Nice catch! The power of graphic design and the critical Rennlist crowd!

Pirelli's contract to be sole supplier of 20" tires for 991's was a three year contract which of course would not be in place for 2016 model year necessarily. Hence, open to other suppliers to get N ratings certified again.

I talked with the Michelin reps at RSR-V yesterday, they were tight lipped about an N0 for the 991.2 and the two cars at the event were on Zeros but they did say that the company had seriously under estimated the demand for 19" and 20" fitments and they were actively working to meet the demands of all the major tire co's in the US that have backlog orders in for them

Hmmmmm...did they define what "actively working" means?!

It probably means "do not hold your breath to order MPSS for your 991.1."

I suspect they will not build many 991- sized " generic " MPSS at this point , since the NO spec sizes are prob already in production , for fitment to production 991.2 s which hit German retailers in 3 mos and US retailers in 6 mos.

I suspect their thinking is that it is not Michelin's duty to fulfil the 991.1 aftermarket's wish for something besides the OEM Pirelli Pzero NOs -at this late date - as that will just screw up their tire wholesalers' inventory as demand for their stocked MPSS generics will go from very high to zero overnight the moment the NO ones are available .

That's probably right. Right now I believe that all their PSS 295 30 20" tires are specced as OE Mercedes tires for the SLS. They're going to keep making those for the foreseeable future but Michelin hasn't exactly been churning them out since Mercedes built fewer than 7000 cars. The poor SLS drivers have been having a hell of a time getting replacements since 2012.5. The N0s are going to be a huge relief for them.
