Default How much the 40000 miles service will cost?

Hi there,
My Porsche is a 2012 911s (991 model). It's approaching 40000 miles. The P dealer ask for $2200 plus tax for the 40000 miles maintenance. I also called a body shop and they said they could do the same job under $1000. What should I do? Anybody know what's important to change at 40000 miles?

Didn't the dealer give you a breakdown of what's covered? Ask them. They'll provide it. I would assume that service is listed somewhere online. Doesn't seem far fetched for the price/mileage.

Body shop?? Are they quoting service or a front end repaint for rock chips??

I believe my local dealer quoted ~ $2,000-$2,200 for the four year service. Mine will be done this coming summer...

Service prices vary significantly from State to State, but they can also vary significantly within a State. I live in MD and there are three dealers within an hour of where I live. Two year maintenance prices for these three dealers for the two year service went from a low of $640 to a high of $930, and this was for precisely the same set of services recommended by Porsche at the two year interval.
Never schedule a service without asking for the price of that service. I've found that service prices are negotiable just like the asking price of a car.

Main things done at 40K are spark plugs, air filters, cabin filters, and oil change. The rear bumper needs to be removed to access the engine air filters. My local dealer wanted $1400 for this.
I did it myself with the help of a mechanic friend for about $325 in parts and a couple hours of our time. Removing the bumper looks onerous but is quite easy. A dozen or so Torx fasteners hold it and the taillights on, there are online pictorials and videos showing the procedure. The clip itself is light and easy for two people or even one to remove.
I'd really suggest trying it yourself, $2200 is a total ripoff.

MTSCOTT is right, the main things are plugs and airfilter. While $2200 is high, that sounds about right for a P dealer in CT.
Call an indy, its about 3hrs of work.

can you replace the sparkplugs without removing the bumper? reason why I ask is im am coming to 40K miles, my car was a cpo with 26K miles. i am sure they changed the filters. not sure if they did sparkplugs. i was thinking of just changing the oil and sparkplugs because all the other inspections were done 10 months ago.

I think you could replace the plugs just by removing the wheels although the bumper off gives you a little more elbow room. I also wouldn't assume the CPO dealer changed the air filters early.

All service and what they replaced should be documented so look in your paperwork or ask. Just my guess.... unless they had a reason to pull the rear bumper to do something else they wouldn't do it before the 40K mark.

Plugs were a huge pain to reach in the 997.2. Visually they look a little easier to reach in the 991.1, but I still haven't seen a DIY writeup by someone who's done the job.

Porsche is like many manufacturers using time or mileage as a basis for service. The question I have is if you have 20K miles at 4 years do you really need to do the 40K service? Do you really need plugs at 20K?
