Buying decision help .1 or .2 (or GT3 - hehe)?
Difficult decision - I've been messing around leasing with a couple of cars now to find what I want long term. Started with a base coupe, now with an S cab.
I will be able to pull ahead my lease in Jan 2016. Do I:
1. Secure a 991.1 GTS build for Jan 2016 delivery (I just spoke to a dealer who has one);
2. Wait and see how the 991.2s actually drive - if I like it order one;
3. Based on the above in Jan 2017 exit my lease and pick up a CPO 991.1 GTS that will not be to my exact spec.
4. Keep the 991.1 S cab with the sweet red seats
Or just screw it and get a GT3 - they are staying N/A right? Can you DD one (I have a short commute)? Manual vs PDK not really a thing for me.
I'm thinking maybe 3., but GT3 is an interesting proposition if I could get one and live with it on a daily basis.
Thoughts?

You seem to have two different decision points.
The first is whether to get a GT3 versus one of the "lesser" 911 models. For me, this would be based on how I was going to use the car. I think that the GT3 is a difficult choice as a DD, especially if you're regularly driving around the city of SF. I think of it as more of an occasional use/track car. You and a companion probably wouldn't be happy in it through a longer road trip.
If you decide on one of the non-GT3 models, I'd go with the .2. I admit that I'm a newer is better kind of guy. I'm in a '15 GTS now and am very happy with my choice. I was no in a position to wait for the new car so I have zero regrets. But - sight unseen - if I could have waited, I would have. When is the last time a newer 911 wasn't better than an older one? If you're one of the guys that (reasonably) longs for the older technology/lesser luxury 911s, the 991.1 may suit you better. Otherwise, I'd keep your car until the lease ends and get a 991.2.

The GT3 thought came about after reading the GT3 forum, and thinking about how a decently optioned GTS ends up being not too far off GT3 money. Now having said that, do I need a GT3, probably not. Just seems money better spent. I'll have to do some research on the GT3 forum as to availability of 2016 models (it seems used are just as expensive).
I'm in the South Bay, with decent roads to work, just not sure if it could be a DD?? For longer car trips we have the family SUV.
Probably getting a CPOed .1 makes the most sense, I wonder if GTSs will become available by then.
Ordering a .1 GTS though is very appealing to get exactly what I want, but then I'm full circle back at GT3 money though.

The new Turbo motors are going to be alot of fun. I am going to guess factory twin KO3 turbochargers which means your looking at 450whp with a tune. I think the future is going to be very interesting.
