sounds a bit like those special green marker pens that you could buy to color the edges of your CDs with in order to improve the sound reproduction to me... i.e a placebo effect

Default here we go...

http://www.tmcmotorsport.com/Product....aspx?pid=2708

"Our latest product offers performance upgrade for engine up to 15% increase in power and faster gear shifting for auto and paddle shift gearboxes with 26% faster shifting. This is the ultimate tuning package and works for all auto cars including latest models with anti-tune ECU. Expect gains of approx 40 bhp and 50 NM."

"These units are not flashing a full file, that's why they can do 'anti-tune- cars, they are updating pieces of information both in the ECU and Tune but not the whole map so it doesn't alter the flash counter or change the overall file size Biggest selling features are: Undetectable by dealers. Does not change the ECU flash counter. Does not change the file size of the ECU map. Bypass anti tuning without having to remove the ECU. Have warranty concerns, flash it back to stock! Did the dealer update your vehicle firmware, reflash the ECU again!"

Gains of 40bhp without actually touching the ECU or doing any exhaust work…that's some funny **** right there. At least they've got a good creative writing team.

I think those numbers might be for the 911 Turbo (it's the same box for all models, as it's the same transmission). Or of course they may just be plucked out of the air as so many of these numbers are. As I said, I will dyno the car once I have access to a dyno that it will run on.

I should say though that, just because claimed gains figures tend to be bs doesn't mean that mods don't do anything. The total gains on my previous car were only dynoed at 15hp, but the difference in driveability was huge.

I tried this VR tuning module on my cayman S 981 model. as the OP said, the flash doesn't feel different from stock but there is change in the mapping of the 3 different modes of throttle and doesn't feel like actual power gain. I was not so sure it was doing anything to be honest.

if you re-read the snippets I quoted from their website they claim they are doing a partial re-map of the ECU (which presumably is associated with their power increase claims) 40bhp seems rather "optimistic" even from a (partial) ECU tune alone, and I dont see how any remapping of either the throttle or the transmission (alone) would add *any* power whatsoever...

at best I'd want a dyno comparision before spending $1000+ on this...

I could see tuning to a higher octane fuel. Otherwise no.
