Didn't know that. Many Audi's and VW's need to be specially coded to get that feature to work.
Once parked just flip your turn signal selector to right or left and that side will light up.

Help me out here. Why would I want that? It must be something worthwhile if people are paying to have VWs and Audis coded to do it; so what exactly are we talking about?
Second question: if I want to do this, I put the car in Park (if PDK)? What if it's a manual? Ignition switch needs to be in what position?
Thanks!

It's a European thing and normal on European cars. It's meant to make the car more visible when parked on narrow streets. If you're parked on the right side of the street, you'd leave your directional signal lever in the left position (with the ignition off). The left rear light remains dimly lit so the car can be better seen by approaching vehicles.

I have owned/own ten Audis over now 20 years and not sure I ever picked up on this. But I would probably not ever used it anyway beyond the normal flashers. Guess what I'm about to walk outside and do. Also just learned for the first time today since it is nice in FL to not have all the windows down picking up take out for lunch and put the bag in the passenger seat through the window. It does indeed have a motion sensor and set off the alarm. I need to read how to turn it off faster as hitting the unlock didn't do it at first. ended up popping the frunk to get it to shut up. opps.

It has to be used depending on where you are parked (at night), the absence of street lighting and the posted speed limit.
Been around since the late 70's.

That's cool. My old R53 MINI Cooper S had this. I used it a few times, but people would always tell me I left my lights on.
But then again, Pittsburgh in 2004 was not a very European place.

I hit the key buttons twice on unlock which tends to work on my other cars then did a lock/unlock, nothing, then hit the button on the door handle, to cycle it, nothing. then hit the frunk. that did it. I have the smart key thing but was still outside of the car since I threw the bag in on the passenger side before walking around the car. Tempting to go set it off in my garage to get it right so not fumbling next time. Or read the manual but that's not going to happen today.
