I do find it odd that the MPSS's never received an N rating. I bet Porsche charges a hefty development fee to the tire manufacturer to go through the process.

Are you now running the original Pirelli's on your C2S now? Have you noticed you really don't need to replace the fronts as of yet ? The rears tend to wear out approx twice as fast as the fronts (at least on MY 991). Could I suggest that you run a new set of Pirelli's on the rear for now and replace all four with the Michelin Pilot Sports next time around ? Also, really not much difference in size between the 295's and 305's anyway. Size comparisons here: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....XLN0&tab=Sizes

The following six sizes do have an N rating, I wonder which Porsche they are meant to be used on:

255/45ZR19 (100Y)
265/35ZR19/XL (98Y)
285/40ZR19 (103Y)
255/40ZR20/XL (101Y)
295/35ZR20/XL (105Y)
335/30ZR20/XL (108Y)

Some K rated (Ferrari) tires have already moved on to a K2 rating.

My dealer told me that he thinks the delay in availability is that they are getting the N rating and are waiting on the to start making them again. That is his theory anyway.

I'd "guess" the 19s are probably Cayman/Boxster and the 20's Turbos or Panamera...

When I attended the MPSS launch event Michelin went into some detail about the development of brand specific variants (and Porsche/BMW/MB engineers
were in attendance)

it starts off as a business decision, will Michelin be an OEM partner for a
a particular model, then Michelin and the car company work together to
develop the brand variant together.

So N-spec MPSS are physically different to an MPSS on a BMW or MB...

That is about where I am. Either that or go to the 295 instead of the 305. I will try to hold out but if they get too bad I will have to decide what to do.

Good idea, but need a new set. The tires came used on the Carrera Classics that I bought here on the forum. I suspect they were either tracked, under-inflated, or both. Outer edges on all four are pretty shot, and one of the fronts has a plug near an edge that I'm not liking.

Makes sense. I'd still bet there is money flowing in the direction of Porsche somehow. Much to gain from the from the tire manufacturers for having that N rating.

Didn't Porsche run Michelins on their winning LMP1 monsters at LeMans? It's unfathomable to me that "N" variants aren't readily available on their 295/30/ZR20 & 245/35/ZR20's...

they are not remotely connected. Its all down to strategic variant/model planning in the early stages of planning, typically you will find that for every
model/variant they will come with 2 tire suppliers; Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop ...

actually the money flows in the opposite direction; since when a particular manufacturer/tire is chosen as an OEM part, the tire manufacturer generates
revenue from the factory, and subsequently from the variant population in
after-sales replacements from the dealer network and independents...

I've had a set of MPSS (305) tires on order since March. Just left Americas Tire Store with no ETA according to Michelin. And no excuses as to why. Very arrogant attitude of Michelin.
