991 GTS GT Silver Has Arrived!
#25
Have put about 500 miles on the car in almost a week. Still breaking in the car so no Sports Plus and keeping under 5K revs. Here are some notes and comparison to my previous GTS.
Current: 991 GTS 2WD, PDK, SPASM (no PDCC)
Past: 997.2 GTS 2WD, PDK, PASM
PDK
Just wow! I was very happy with the shifting speed of the 997.2. But no comparison to the 991. Upshifts/downshifts seem instantaneous and so smooth compared to the 997.2. However, in automatic mode, both regular and sport, the transmission is very conservative on the 991. Seems the whole purpose is to get you to 7th gear as quickly as possible. On the 997.2, sport mode seemed to be much more aggressive. I don’t think it ever put me in 7th gear, but could be sometimes clunky especially downshifting to lower gears. On the 997.2 I would use regular mode most of the time and sport mode for spirited driving. On the 991, pretty much put it in sport mode right away since it is so smooth and not too aggressive. But find myself shifting manually much more than I did on the 997.2
STEERING
I wouldn’t say the 991 is worse, just feels different. Definitely feels heavier and less feedback. But not an issue at all. Probably slight preference right now to 997.2 but I’m sure I’ll get used to 991.
CHASSIS
Big difference between 991 and 997.2. Certainly some of it may be due to SPASM in 991 vs PASM in 997.2 But 991 feels much more planted. I’ve only done some spirited on-ramp/off ramps, but have no roll on 991 where I would get thrown around a bit on the 997.2 A bit shocked that there is this much difference. Can’t wait to take the 991 on the track! In regular mode the SPASM feels a little firmer than the 997.2 PASM, but not uncomfortable at all even on bumpy roads. Very happy the SPASM suspension on the 991.
EXTERIOR
Of course personal preference, think both 991 and 997.2 both look great. . Never a fan of the 997.2 tail lights but the 991 still looks a little too modern to me. But really like the black grill in black and the black trim on the headlights. Wasn’t quite sure how I would like all the extra black, but in person looks great. I also prefer the black wheels of the 991. The wheels have more of a matte finish and like that they got rid of the silver trim. I also wasn’t quite sure about the sport design front end but have really warmed up to it. Would still prefer the front lip in black like the 997.2 as it gives a little better contrast.
INTERIOR
Had full leather on the 997.2 with no Alcantara. But really love the GTS interior package with deviating stitching and carbon fiber trim on the 991. Again, personal preference but definitely worth the money to me. Looks absolutely stunning! I did get the leather steering wheel with the 991 and glad I did. I like the feel of leather on the hands when driving. While I do enjoy the more modern interior and more useful PCM and console on the 991, it does make me feel a bit claustrophobic with the big center console. I miss some of the openness and simplicity of the 997.2 interior. Also, a very minor nitpick, but the rear and side view mirrors seem very small on the 991. :-)
POWER
Tough to fully judge since I’m still keeping the revs down. From 0-20 don’t seem to notice much difference, but after that I think there is a decent amount more pull in the 991.
EXHAUST
I’m not much of an exhaust person (I know sacrilege!), but big difference between 991 and 997.2. On 997.2, couldn’t tell any difference at all from when exhaust in regular vs sport mode. But on 991,can really hear the hums and the engine revving out much more in sport exhaust mode. Again, not a lot of value to me. But still fun to hear once in a while.
In summary, very pleased with the 991 GTS. Glad I made the move. But also makes me appreciate the many great things in the 997.2 GTS. Wish I could have both! :-)

Gorgeous! At 6'5 with long torso, I sat in a GTS and without sunroof (I wish more 911's were outfitted that way), the headroom is unreal for a car of its size.... or any car for that matter. I can actually just about comfortably and safely fit in it with just about enough "reserve space". About as close to my Macan (which has the best frontal headroom and thankfully easily available without sunroof of any car I've driven, period, I guess carrying that top notch interior space engineering for its size from the 911 and naturally scaling it up) as any other premium car gets.
Do all GTS's have to come with all that text at the rear, or is there an option to just have it say "911 GTS"?
