Default price check

I was ready to pull the trigger on a new targa 4S when my sales guy informs me that all he can discount the car is $2500, saying targas are tough to get. As a repeat customer I expected more. Are targas really that short? I am on the east coast. I see plenty going unsold on autotrader. I will not overpay for any car. I know what goes up will come down. My last 991 had 8 grand knocked off.
What to do?

Make offers on the other cars you see on Autotrader.

It is fair for them to make a profit on the car, and it is fair for you to expect a good deal. I would tell him that your offer is to split the profit between invoice and MSRP with them. Their profit equals your discount. They may also have other incentive money as well.

If he doesn't accept, another dealer will very quickly, order one at that price agreement.

I'm in the middle of a Targa GTS purchase and don't have pricing yet (just sent in my first build last night). They are rear birds, but I would expect a higher discount than that. I think part of it is limited production, but demand is also limited.
