Default Painting the Hat on the brake rotor

For those of you that have painted the rusted and discolored hats on the Porsche brake rotors did you use the same color paint and clear it afterwards or did you do black?
Also did you leave the caliper on while painting?
Thank you in advance.

Check the 996 forum. I followed instructions there when I did mine on my old 996 using a hammered silver Rustoleum rust/heat resistant paint. No need to remove calipers, just some masking tape will do. Never had rust again and it was good for the next 5 + years until I sold it.

Thank you Michael. A friend
owns a body shop offered to do it for free. He likes gloss black with clear and said it will last for years. I might just do the silver, not sure yet.
He also wants to do the wheels in black gloss. Maybe later. The hats could like nice in gloss black though with clear. The car is a 991 white/tan cab

Be sure to mask everything, including the top of the car and fenders. Throw an old sheet on the car. And move other cars that are in the area. Overspray fog will get EVERYWHERE. You don't want to be claying and buffing your car afterwards. Trust me!
