Would they say how much the trunk money they received, mor can someone on here help the OP out?

9% with trunk money involved is way too low a discount.

DanInLA, I believe that they're being straight with you. If the car hasn't been titled, it can't be CPO'd. And the "trick" of punching the warranty card for a "demo" car to get credit is routine. This really isn't all that odd a situation. If I was you, I'd focus on getting the best price (including transport).

Can they punch a vehicle AND sell it as new? Or am I getting bad info? I'd love to get it CPO'd if I could.
Of course a new car can be CPOed. They start the warranty and CPO it. My local dealer does this all the time for caymans that they don't sell after a year.

I'm trying to learn more here -

I thought that a CPO car had to be previously owned. And punching the warranty card doesn't mean it's been sold as they claim these punched, but unsold cars are demos. So I think that you'd be saying that a demo car can be CPO'd? And that's very possibly true.

I'm not as concerned with getting it CPO'd if I can get comfortable with the car. And I'm working on that with some local assistance.

It's all moot if we can't get to a price that works. And I agree, it needs to include transport. I suspect those discussions will start very soon.

My situation was pretty similar to yours. In October of 2013, I bought a new 2012 991 Cab.

FWIW:
The car had been "punched" in November of 2012, so almost a year was gone from the warrantee, but they were selling it CPO, so I got 5+ years of warrantee. Not an unusual situation.

The car had about 150 miles on it when I bought it.

I ended up getting about 25% off sticker.

The car is awesome and I've never regretted it a single moment.

The color combo was/is slightly unusual, but I don't think out of the mainstream. White with blue top and blue leather interior. It has manual transmission which, combined with that color combo, perhaps made it a harder sell. To me it was a perfect combo.

Good luck!

Over the past year here in the Seattle area I've seen several 981s and a couple 991s that were "new", warranty punched, CPO offered. Assuming that this isn't a practice limited to our local dealership you can/should expect a "new car" with a CPO warranty extension. Or ask and get one as part of the deal...

New means the car is still on the original MSO certificate.

Warranty punched means that the dealer has taken complete ownership of the vehicle away from Porsche and therefore the car is sold as far as Porsche is concerned. This is typically done because at the end of the year Porsche will offer "trunk money" -- I think it's typically been $5000 but the trunk money info I had was Caymans, 911's might be higher.

Invoice is usually 10-12% below retail so on a car sitting like this you should be able to get AT LEAST a discount of 10% + the trunk money of at least $5000.

I'm not sure why the minimal mileage is so surprising to you. The car was built in July which means it was stateside at the dealer until Sep/Oct. It isn't like people are constantly showing up at the Porsche dealer to test drive 911 Cabs anymore and then not buying them...400 miles in a bit over a year means that it probably averaged a few test drives a month.

Here's a bit more info...

z356: "I asked last week my local dealer. According to them, PCNA has not told them yet. Last year I believe the trunk money was very little...$5K for any left-over unsold MY2013 991*. I doubt this year it will be any more than that...if even that much for not-yet-sold MY2014's 991s! But then again, the unsold MY2014 991 inventory at US dealers seem to me a bit high this late in the 'game'. Cars.com lists just over 1000 MY2014 991's 'new' for sale as of today...if I am reading their website correctly. That is a big number for this date (August 24th). Especially when you consider that MY2015 991's started to be built at Zuffenhausen on the first week of June! Many MY2015 991's have already started arriving at US dealerships!

As you know, to get the trunk money, the dealer has to mark the car as 'sold' for corporate reporting purposes and punch the warranty 'in service' date on the vehicle. Most dealers are quite frank about it...if you ask them directly which vehicle has been punched! Usually happens in September or October at the latest! You would expect no less with our consumer protection laws. You can normally assume that the dealer will take the trunk money as soon as it's offered by PCNA...to facilitate the sale of the vehicle ASAP.

But most salesman hate to talk about 'trunk money'. And the thought of sharing 'trunk money' with a customer is an even harder concept for them to grasp...truly an anathema. Best to avoid talking about it with a salesman and go directly to GM or Sales Manager to get these deals done. They are more sanguine about the realities of what needs to be accomplished...which is to heavily discount the cars if you want them sold this late in the model year! Sadly, you can't believe how many 'new' left-over MY2013 991's are still at US dealers unsold. That is because that dealer's management team failed to pay heed to the memo which told them 'Sell the damn left-overs, stupid! It's a depreciating asset. Leases become un-economical on leftovers. Take your losses early and move on!' By the way, I am the guy that usually sends out that memo...

Keep us posted when you find out more details. Inquiring minds want to know.

Saludos,
Eduardo

This is all interesting information. I hadn't thought that a car could be CPO'd if it hadn't previously been titled. Good to know.

Well stated. I agree with this. I suppose I've been paranoid about why this car has been sitting so long.

I'm thinking that each dealership may have their own policy for CPO'ing punched cars.

The car had been "punched" in November of 2012, so almost a year was gone from the warrantee, but they were selling it CPO, so I got 5+ years of warrantee. Not an unusual situation. The car had about 150 miles on it when I bought it. I ended up getting about 25% off sticker.
Chiboy, that's an amazing deal! Excellent!

Car will be on transport to me sometime next week!

The dealer is asking me what should he do/not do to get the car ready. I told him to definitely not drill the front bumper. What else should I ask him to do or not do?

Congrats on a beautiful Cab! See if they'll put the money back in the trunk before they ship it! Seriously, sounds like you've carefully vetted this and I hope it all goes well. Love that blue!
