Observations from being rear-ended
In Georgia, the only way you would not trigger a car fax report would be to not call the police. If there is a police report, there is a car fax report.
That is an amazingly small amount of damage -- at 20mph! Great news that no one was hurt. That's #1. The rest is a major hassle - and you might want to investigate paying a third party for a diminished value estimate. So far the involved parties seem to be acting in (very) good faith, but in the end money talks. It might well be worth the $200-$300 cost to get additional information on the value so months from now you don't wake up in a cold sweat thinking about the future loss.
Great car, great build (we have Platinum Silver too), great story about Porsche safety and structural engineering - too bad you and the rest of got to learn about it this way.
Here's to a successful outcome!

As I mentioned in the initial write up, I was on the way to my Porsche guy for a brake fluid flush so once I got there the first thing he did was put it up on a lift and invited me out in the shop to take a look. He shined his flashlight up there and everything looked good but you are right - until the valence comes off I won't know what the real damage is. If the estimate grows, the insurance company will cover it - I have discussed that possibility with them, it is a common occurrence.
I discussed this with the collision center doing the work. They could care less - it is the insurance company that submits the input to CarFax and being in California I'm sure it is a "law" that ain't going away......
Correct you are. The insurance company sends me a report that I can then use to submit to DMV - required. BTW, there was no police report.

Bad time of the year to be on the streets. I was also rear-ended on a stop light by a guy texting 3 weeks ago. It was a little over one month since I had gotten my new C4S... Even though we were just starting to move after the lights turned green my car looked much worse than yours (don't ask me how...). He was driving one of these new Cherokees and at least admitted his fault. We both had the same insurance and the approval for a Porsche authorized collision center was pretty straightforward. I am supposed to finally pick car up tomorrow. From what they said, bumper for C4S had to come from Germany.
This totally sucks... Hope everything turns out perfect like I'm sure it will!
Larry, I would sh*t a brick if this happened to me. I can't imagine getting rear ended in my Pcar but to have it happen minutes after collecting a brand new, and first 911, from the dealer!
A shiver just went down my spine.
