Now THAT is a stop.

Burning Brakes
What did help was the panic-emergency strobe mode the brake lights went onto once antilock was initiated. I really like that feature.
On the other subject:
chailinchou, instead of creating or exacerbating a racial incident, next time find the maturity to PM the person to understand the intended meaning.
You may not only avert controversy but gain respect and possibly a friend.
Best, Bret.

Burning Brakes
Yeah, our Volvo has it as well. The brake lights will blink until the brake is released.
I always admired the way the Euros designed stuff.
For me it started back a few years (decades) when i bought my first new car.
It was a 1982 Scirocco. Center hazard switch, fog lights (and amazed at Porsche's rear fog) the right hand column stalk which when pushed up cycled the WW's one time only and down to first detent for incremental, second for low speed third for high. Heal and toe was easy. Rack and pinion!!! Blaupunkt!!! (sp). Headlights with replacement bulbs that could be upgraded (illegal but still awesome).
A 4 cylinder engine and wonderful suspension that was so much different and better in most regards than my '66 Corvette. Sure the power wasn't there and I wasn't crazy about FWD but the fun factor, fuel economy and day to day utility was impressive.
Couple of things I remember that was less than adequate - the A/C and the heater.........nothing could beat a Fridgidaire and a hot V8.
The Europeans.................very smart bunch.
.........sorry for the flashback

In the Porsche today, headed to Subway for lunch. Doing 50 mph on US HWY 1 (45 zone) and tooling along a Honda CRV pulls out from the US Post Office right in front of me. And he was going in the opposite direction so he was turning in front of me, too. Oh, no! This is going to be ugly.
There was no time to do anything but just totally mash the brakes all the way to the floor. Your mind can work really fast in these scenarios and mine said "GODDAMN IT HE'S GOING TO WRECK MY PORSCHE." And I waited for the airbag deployment, my arm reflexes pushing on the steering wheel...moment of impact as the ABS shuddered like mad.....
Except we didn't collide.
Amazingly, incredibly, the Porsche stopped a scant three feet from his driver's door. I couldn't believe it. From 50 mph to nothing in not-very-far, seemed like just a few feet. Had I been in the Toyota Tundra, which I almost drove today, he'd have been a dead man. Asian guy, he didn't even make eye contact. Jackass. I had the window down and yelled appropriately.
I've always said nothing stops as fast as a 911. That rear engine bias really hauls them down. Its true. What a car....

what really scares me is being in front of an Escalade on the freeway, with it tailgating me in the GT3 ... that thing is huge and has 'dixie paper plates' for brake rotors... not the way I want to upgrade the engine in my car by planting some Detroit iron in my engine comparment!
very glad that his had a happy ending!
