Full disclosure: I am actually trying to decide between E90 and F80 myself. For a while I had both a 997.2 4 GTS (still do) and an AW M3 E90 and loved them both for different reasons. Unfortunately had to let go one of them and... the E90 went
Now I am in the position to add again. I am between new F80 vs CPO E90. For many reasons I am inclined to go E90. Your thoughts ?
I thought I would prefer the E90, but interior and design seem so dated now that the new one has brain washed me. I'd say a low optioned F80 would be better. But it does sound weird.

Thank you. I am inclined to go E90 but F80 ED would be nice…

Enjoy your beautiful blue GT3!

It's great to have someone who actually has spent time in both cars take time to provide feedback.

I've owned M3's in the past and have contemplated returning to BMW. I just enjoy the 911 experience so much more. Two great cars... but different.

Thanks for taking the time to write this up.

As a former owner of E36 and E46 M3s, I appreciate the performance of M models. It's incredible what the M3 offers in performance when you consider that it's built upon the 3 series platform, as opposed to the purpose built 991 platform. The side by side comparison of the M3 and 991 show just how much the 911 has grown with each new generation. I expect that the 993 would look like a sub compact next to the new M3.

Thanks Money 2536 for your comprehensive review. It's always refreshing to get an unbiased perspective.

Money... I really enjoyed your write-up and pictures. I just got a 2015 M4 cpe, and was commenting to my wife, while it is a good car, it is no substitute for a 911, and mine is an old 997. The Porsche key is still the first one I reach for. I have been trying to decide whether to replace mine, which I really love with a 991 GTS.
I am kind of scared now about the 'hesitation' issue. I would be sick to let mine go and have an issue like this with the new one. What do you think?

Thanks Jim. This is such a tough one. I'd like to tell you it will be fine and your car won't have it. I think a reasonable solution can be to wait a bit and get a used one with 5,000 miles on it. That way you could test drive it to ensure that it doesn't have any issues. I do think Porsche is going to figure this out. It just might be a while.

Great advice. I just have to find the right car and previous owner. I do think the M4 is a great package and an incredible value compared to a Porsche, and I only got 1K off sticker!

Awesome post. I assume with the new GT3 vs. the F80 M3, no contest, right? It's really an unfair comparison . . .

Yeah, that one isn't worth a comparison. GT3!

Nicely done and very fair sounding comparison....I only wish "Car and Driver" had done the same.
