I checked with Porsche financial and lease transfers are possible , the new lessee must be approved for the transfer. It's a $400 transfer fee and the primary account holder remains on the account as a secondary . If the new lessee ever defaults on payments , the bureau will penalize both parties.

That's the same as VW Financial that I mentioned. Okay for the person taking over the lease, no way in Hell I'd do that as the primary lessee, they're basically still on the hook for the whole enchilada.

how do you know if it's not a ticking time bomb? at end of 13 months you still need to return to Porsche a working car. that would probably be my biggest worry.

It's under warranty, I wouldn't worry about anything mechanical on the car.
Being a lease though, you do need to return it without excessive wear and tear, and with serviceable tires, etc.

So did you do it?

I took over some guy's lease on a Boxster S many years ago. He lived in Seattle, and realized having a convertible there wasn't a great idea. Although in that deal, the original lessor paid me a few grand to take over the lease. Was a good deal for me.

As mentioned, PFS will allow lease transfers, but they do not remove the original person from the lease; they will only add the second person to it, provided they are approved by PFS.

This is one of those "too good to be true" things that you will kick yourself later for not jumping on it while you can. Holding out for that last $500 is penny foolish. Go for it!

One call to Porsche Financial Services with his account number will answer all of the questions - allowable miles, balance due, etc. If it works out and makes sense, then do it.

But try not to trash the car too badly, OK? Someone is going to buy that thing used. Be kind to the next owner.
