]It's been my experience watching dealers as well as ordering a low optioned 981S that they absolutely fly off the lots. Thousands and thousands for 99cent moving maps and thousands and thousands for deadweight lumbar spam and on and on. As for dealer profits go, I'm not sure what's better, a low optioned car that flips in weeks or a ridiculously over specced car show wanna be that rots on the lot for over a year, has to be "punched" and CPO'd and still sits for a long time. Either way there's not nearly enough lower specced 911's around.

I would instead, contact the internet sales guys at a few target dealers, tell them what your 'must haves' are, C4S, Agate Gray, PDK, and see if they can find a matching car. In all likelyhood, there will be some inventory somewhere that matches, you know what your 'base' spec MSRP is, so (if the dealer is willing to obtain the car for you) you have the opportunity to negotiate down from the actual MSRP of the car they have found (which in all likelyhood will have more options than you want and is thus more expensive) they will also
likely negotiate if this is a 2013/14 car so you have a window of opportunity
here with the new model year forthcoming.
Thats solid advice. Thank you !

I am also looking at low milage CPO cars now. CPO cars with less than 5K miles and 100K mile warranty apparently can be had for $25-40K lower than original MSRP. Going after such cars is very tempting and even prudent it seems to me, since the gigantic depreciation hit has occured.

The downside offcourse is that such a car is not custom and would probably not be exactly like I would have ordered. But in most cases they have more stuff than I would order on my custom build so - you get some extra stuff but might give up on an ideal custom build color/look etc.

in my experience I find that dealers tend to "spec up" cars avoiding options such as MT, and adding 'bling' like full leather etc to push the MSRP up.

I think that's a sounds approach, let someone else take the depreciation hit, and get more for less, just be sure you know what's a "must have" vs "nice to have" vs "deal breaker" options in your head so you can strike quickly when you see a likely candidate!

and of course ... post pictures when you finally capture your unicorn

This is exactly the debate I'm having with myself... take the depr hit for being the first owner, but getting *exactly* what you want-- or, just get something "pretty close" a year or 2 old and potentially saving quite a bit..

Here's your car sitting on the lot in New England at Herb Chambers.

http://www.herbchambersporscheofbost...f0edb6d4f6.htm

I found them to be very easy to deal with over the phone and was going to buy a 911 from them, but the specific one I was targeting was sold 2 days before I called to pull the trigger. They move units up there and I'd call them up and try them on for size at 8% off MSRP. Call the Sales Manager direct and bypass the sales droid, have your credit card ready.

Thanks. Much appreciated.
Its the right color but I would order it with Carrerra Classic Wheels and Side Window Trim in Aluminum. I think those 2 options together look very attactive on most colors.

But I will definitely give them a call.
Thanks again.

Getting exactly what you want is certainly very tempting. I suppose if one has the financial means then it is the clear choice. However for the rest, perhaps being content with the car (the driving machine) makes sense even if one has to sacrifice the perfect aesthetic look.

It can also mean getting a new C2 vs a loaded out-the-wazoo C4S cab for almost the same $$$$.

So what is a guy supposed to do...

Good luck with your decison.

There are two seperate paths.
First is ordering a build off the configurator.
Very simple, build it, figure out what you want for a discount and then match with a Dealer. There are probably as many different ways this has been accompilshed as there are cars sold.
Second is PTS. Once you select PTS, many options in the Configurator are not available as you are now ordering a truly 'custom' Porsche and these options each need to be authorized by Porsche Germany.
This is the province of the 'Exclusive Shop' and you should then refer to the excellent Threads on this Forum concerning PTS.-Richard

The only options that you lose (AFAIK) on the Configurator with PTS are the "paint" options. That is true; these become CXX options available only through the dealer with the blessing of Porsche Exclusive being the final arbiter via PAG.
I have been told my order for CXX "center console trim painted exterior color" will be approved when the car is finally built the end of the year. I was told part of the reason all the PTS builds were pushed from September/October to November/December was that there have been so many requests for CXX options. True? Who knows? Only Porsche knows and they haven't called me.

Were you provided any sort of list of what all the cxx options are? did you get any of them?

I was not provided a list. I only requested Center Console trim painted exterior color. I was told that no CXX options were being approved at the time, but it will most likely be approved before the November/December build.
That was in an email from Melissa a few weeks ago. She told me my September build would be pushed to November/December before the dealer knew (oops).
