Default New Cayman GTS or CPO 991S?

Greetings 991 owners... I am seriously starting to second guess my Cayman GTS I have on order simply for the fact that for the same money I can buy a clean 12.5 or 13 991S. My GTS is not due to arrive until mid-October.

A little background. First Porsche was a 89 951. Then a 2001 Boxster base, then a 2009 Boxster S, then a 2014 Cayman base. I have never tracked until this spring when I attended my first DE at Road Atlanta with the Cayman. I had a blast. So I see 2-3 track days per year in my future from here on out. I have driven a 991S (PDK) a few times, but nothing spirited. Just simple test drives. You can feel the extra HP and torque for sure over a Cayman S. I don't really have a need for the back seats and I love the looks of both the 991 and 981.

My Cayman GTS order is performance oriented with PDK, PTV, X73 sport suspension. I also added Bose Nav and Carrera turbo wheels and the carmine GTS interior package. List comes in just a tick under 92K and I was only offered 1K loyalty discount off because allocations are in limited supply.

So what do you think? Brand new loaded Cayman GTS or nice CPO 991S?

Your thoughts are appreciated...

I'm pretty partial to the 911 and didn't even look at anything else when I started to look and wanted the AWD.

Anything with CPO you can just drive the wheels off of it without worry.

Have you driven both?

I have driven a Cayman S and a few 991S cars... I doubt the extra 15hp of the GTS would feel much different than the Cayman S. I love both cars, but can only afford one...

991S would get my vote, better looking car, quicker, more utility.

They're both great cars. Get the one that excites you more. That said, should have just kept the 09 Boxster S or consider just keeping your current 981 base Cayman. It's better to start tracking with a lower powered car. And a Cayman would have a friendlier learning curve for the track than a 911.

Hell, get the GTS -- just ease up on those (almost $20k in) options.

I owned a Cayman S that I loved and tracked several times. I too was considering the new GTS v. a '12 C2S. After driving both at the Porsche SDS a few months ago I was surprised at the difference in levels of refinement between the two--the 911 was much more refined. My decision came down to a number of things, including, my aversion to purchasing new Porsche's (I prefer someone else take the depreciation hit) and second, my wife pushing for the 911 (we have grand-kids and the back seats fit them). I went with a 2012 C2S and couldn't be happier with my decision. Although I have read every article and watched numerous videos reviewing the GTS and still would like one. I'm probably in the minority here, but I think the new Cayman is a little better looking than the Carrera (and I think the Carrera's beautiful!).
It sounds like, from your history, you should stick with the GTS. Whatever your choice, you'll be happy--they're both great cars.

Spec'ing out +$90k Boxster/Cayman now is easier than Lindsay Lohan.

The feeling that the additional horses and torque gave, if that's the thing that keeps itching, well, then you know what to do.

Yes there is no substitute for a 911. But I saw a Cayman GTS with the sport suspension this morning, and all I can say is there is no substitute for that either!

I wouldn't spec a car for track if I was only tracking it 2-3 times a year.

I haven't seen or driven the GTS 981. But playing on the Configurator I always end up north of $92K.
At that (and if you want a sunroof and/or a back seat), I would get a CPO 991S.
But that's me and I pre traded my Boxster S at a huge loss on a C4S order...
