Default 5200 mile oil change warning?

Hey rennlisters,

Started my 2014 991 this morning to be hit with a message that a service (oil change) will be due in approx 30 days/5200 miles. My 991 is my daily driver but I don't drive it very hard (although it seems this is subjective!) and the car hasn't even been in Sport Plus mode yet... is a 5200 service message the norm? I presume the dealer will charge me a cool $300-400 for this too?

When was the car placed in service? (stamped by the dealer).
You would typically get a message about a year to date.
Also, there is a software update to prevent the message from appearing prematurely.

When did your car get put into service in 2013, what month? An oil change and a few visual checks will run you a few $100's yes.

The car was purchased (new) in August of 2013. So I presume this is the "put in to service date". 5200 did seem a little premature to me.

As previously stated, there is a software update to prevent the message from appearing prematurely. Call your SA to see if it has been applied to your car.

Service bulletin WE02. Just had it done on my 2014 991 C2, and on the wifey's 2014 981 Cayman S. I think cars produced April 2014 onward don't need it.

Simple software update. Doesn't reset much, just your LCD brightness after they're done. Was happy that it wasn't a full reset. Took an hour to get done with my car.
