Porsche Entry and Drive
#46
Folks, what I said was that on two separate occasions while hosing down the car (with the key in my pocket) the frunk popped open AS DID did the engine cover. As we all know, the frunk ALWAYS pops open if you have entry and drive and you happen to have the key into your pocket while hosing down the front emblem of your car. The engine cover was definitely a surprise. I did not say that my engine cover had ever opened when opening my frunk in the conventional manner.
It was not a big issue for me. Just mentioning that I witnessed the same.

I just got my new 911 which has PED. What’s the technique for opening the frunk without pressing the key fob button? Tried many times and I can only get it to work occasionally. Must of the time I give up and use the key.

need to touch the bumper - I do it slightly left and below of the Porsche emblem.

I love the PED on my 2018 911t!!
It’s great to just reach for the door handle and have the car unlock and then just tap the handle to lock again when I exit the car.
I also prefer the dummy key over a simple stop/start button. It’s fun to still manually turn something to start the engine.

I have had issues too. I have never read the manual. First you don’t have to touch. Wave your hand over the left of the crest. I found out it will not work if the car is running. I have started the car and jumped out to put something in the frunk and it will not open without pressing the key fob. I can now open it almost every time. But I’m not sure why. Read the manual, my guess is there is something really subtle and after trying so many times it will make sense. Spend five minutes and try a few things. Do you wave hand slow, hold hand still, cover more area. Sorry only thing really to add is you don’t need to touch bumper and your car has to be off.

For those people having issues with PED only working some of the time, I think the issue mainly stems from battery quality. I thought my main fob's battery was dying, so I replaced it with a new one, but the problem persisted. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. I remembered that I'd bought the new batteries as a generic brand six pack off of amazon, so I tried a brand new name brand single battery. It was more expensive than my amazon bargain deal, but on the upside, PED has worked flawlessly ever since.
