Do these installs void any part of the warranty?

When I was configuring my new car, the dealer was installing one of these in a new TTS. I asked the tech how many hours, and he said 15. He had the bumpers off and what seemed like half of the car strewn around the shop. I think the hourly rate is $120, so you do the math. Plus the cost of the unit itself.

I paid right at $2400 for unit and install, I was later told by the installer, this was a great deal for the amont of time it took. I also went with the readout installed in the rear view mirror so great deal. Love the system, saved me this morning from a Leo with laser.

My dealer sub contracted the install, so I guess the answer is no since they would have said something (I think?)

It won't void your entire warranty, but if an electrical issue develops, and it can be attributable to the install, PCNA won't be liable.

I've tried to pin down several dealers on this issue, and some have conceded the above, but they stated that they stand by any third party work they perform, i.e. it's the informal "trust me" dealer warranty, not the official PCNA warranty, so your mileage will vary. It makes me wonder if some other problem is caused by the third party install, will the dealer attempt to bill the work as a warranty claim to PCNA, but "forget" to mention the third party work in the warranty paperwork?

My installer spent about 6 hours on my car in my garage installing the 9500 ci. He is the same guy all of the dealers around here use. Not sure what could possibly take someone two working days to install the same unit unless he was making custom mounts.

I have had remote radars installed on at least 7 of my cars in recent memory. Maybe more. Never once has it caused any single electrical issue. Can't imagine how any qualified installer could screw up the job so badly that it voids your warranty.

Read this current thread:

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/8052...w-filling.html

These 991's have tightly controlled electronics, where even swapping a traditional bulb based side maker for a lower watt LED bulb generates faults in the electronic check system.

I read it. I can't find a post saying his problems were caused by a custom installed radar detector. All I saw was a reference to some other shop that used a sawzall and cut a wiring harness.

A competent installer is not going to screw up your electrical system. But everyone is free to take the risk or not. I won't own a car without a radar detector/laser diffuser. I won't have a license for very long.

UPDATE - found this thread on the Escort forum for installation in late model porsches - tells me again that an installer needs to be competent. http://www.escortradarforum.com/foru...ead.php?t=9693

I asked this on the Escort forum. You can leave the old one on. That's what I intend to do.
