Advice for an Interstate Purchase and Shipping?
I found a '12 991 C2S, CPO'd, that's 1500 miles away (TX to CA), from what seems to be a reputable dealer and established seller. I completed a couple of in-depth FaceTime walk-arounds, viewed the DME and the vehicle is having outstanding campaigns and 10K service completed. Any advice from folks who have successfully - or unsuccessfully - completed an interstate purchase and shipping? Understandably I have reservations.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Try to get a local Rennlister to go look at it for you. Dealer should have a transport company available, if I could get time away from work, I'd go pick it up and drive home myself.

I just bought one out of state but the dealer was about 3 hours away. They delivered the car to me in an enclosed trailer to my garage. No problems except they are very slow with the title and registrations in my State.

I bought my car from Denver, CO and I'm in San Francisco. I had the car(2012 991 C2S) inspected by a porsche dealer who got a good recommendation from a RLister. Did most of the paperwork beforehand then flew out and drove the car back. The ~1300 mile drive back was awesome! Did it pretty quickly too. Left on a friday afternoon to fly out, drove all day Sat and was home late Sunday. I only wish I had taken a few days off and made a longer trip out of it. So if you can swing the time, drive it back yourself - it will be awesome!

I've bought four cars long distance - the furthest was 800 miles and that one I drove the car back in the rain. My advice would be to have someone local actually eyeball the car for you - preferably a Porsche specialist who can do a PPI on it, and make sure that they do a cosmetic inspection as well for any damage, signs of repaint, etc.

CA DMV will require a smog check and VIN verification before they will register it in CA...make sure the dealer in TX knows all this and has dealt with CA DMV before. If not, it could turn out to be a bit of a nightmare...don't ask me how I know!!!
Again, make sure the dealership knows how to deal with CA DMV and be prepared to spend a bit of time getting a smog check and going to the DMV for the VIN verification.
Good luck!

After a couple of weeks of phone calls, Skype walk-arounds, and completion of outstanding campaigns, I just returned last night from an over-nighter to Fort Worth where I ended up purchasing the vehicle.
I vetted a dozen transport companies and selected one who was responsive, intelligent, highly recommended, moderately priced (Mercury, enclosed) and would wait for a go-ahead without a deposit. With over 3800 vehicle transportation brokers, choosing a reliable carrier is a daunting process and can serve as an entirely different forum discussion!
After forking over the cashiers check on Friday @ 4:00 Central, I called Mercury and was told that the driver was coincidentally in Dallas and if I had called a couple of hours earlier that it could have been loaded that evening. Anyway, the truck arrived yesterday an hour early so I was able to participate with the vehicle walk-around and loading before I had to dash back to DFW for my return flight. The P was in good company with a new Maclaren MP4, Tesla S, three assorted MB AMGs and an '11 Ferrari 458. So far I feel that covered transportation is worth the extra expense.
The ETA is Wednesday and it's his last drop-off as the driver lives locally. I was impressed with the casual "family" atmosphere of the Fort Worth dealership (Autobahn) but its understandable with DFW's, repeat high-wealth clients. It was a slow day in the service area so while I waited for the truck I able to hangout with the techs and cull insights re the 991.
The next step is to await for TX title and then a trip to my local DMV. I hope that it goes smoothly as well. After an exhaustive process, everything so far has worked out fabulously. I vacillated whether this vehicle was worth the ensuing stress, time and added expense. But I felt it was necessary in order to acquire a pre-owned vehicle in an uncommon exterior/interior color, with 90% of my desired options, from a knowledgeable dealership with intimate knowledge of the previous owner, and at a decent price.
Thanks for all of the input and encouragement. I can take another one off my bucket list!
