$93k 2014 Cayman S - Am I crazy? (X-Post from the Cayman forum)
Hi all, first time poster and (soon to be) first time porsche owner here!
I'm looking at buying a car which I'll keep forever. I've loved porsches forever and now finally have the chance to own one. I fell in love with the 2014 (981) Cayman S, and went to my local the dealer to make a factory order (here's my porsche build code). Final price came to a whopping $93,920...
I was and still am okay paying this price, but I started to think "should I really be looking at 911's?" The car will be a weekend driver for me, and I just want it to put a smile on my face every time I step in it. Luckily, I know both cars will.
I looked around the dealership and found many well equiped 2013/2014 (991) Carrera S's and Carrera 4S's in the $120k - $130k range. In your opinion, should I bite the bullet and "upgrade" to a C4S? This is the one I had in mind.
Let me know what you guys think!

Only back-to-back test drives can answer this question. Make the dealership earn its profit!

Another question to pose to the group...
Would you rather have a maxed Cayman S, or a decently optioned Carrera 4S 3 - 5 years down the line? I don't need the rear seats, so that's one plus for the Cayman, but I fear I may feel as if I'm stuck with the "baby brother" rather than the top dog. Anybody else get this sense? Am I psyching myself out of a great car?

My idea with the 911 is that I would most likely be more tempted to "year round" it, where as the Cayman I would use purely for fun IE good weather. All wheel drive seemed like a decent choice. Any thoughts on a 4S vs an S ?

How long are your guys test drives on average? I feel I'd really need a day with both to know definitively which I'd prefer in the long run. Any way I could pull this off? Maybe renting one?

There's a 54 mile(!!!) 2014 Cayman S in the vehicle marketplace. CPO'd for $67,400. I totally get the ordering EXACTLY what you want.......but is it worth $26K more? In two years time, the two cars will be worth similar dollars.
I don't own either but the new Cayman is extremely tempting. Just have to be careful with the option ticking....it can get out of hand very quickly. 991s are awesome cars too but again, prices get serious very fast.

Listen to the boys and drive everything you can possibly be interested in purchasing. Don't feel bad for one min. at the dealership. You are the customer. Take your time and don't rush this purchase.
If this is really the Porsche purchase to end all purchases get exactly what you want. Especially if you are willing to drop $94 large on a Cayman. I picked up my 2013 Carrera S with PDK, Chrono and PSE, park sens, PDLS, glass sunroof, Classics etc. for just a tad over $100k seven months ago and it had 12 miles on it. Again, don't let anyone tell you what you want. Just decide on your own.

That doesn't shed any light at all on a 981CS versus 991 decision. They're practically the same car in many respects, compared to the vast gulf of features, options, power, and quality between a C2 and a Mini.
