Default Insurance check

Car is a couple of weeks away so thought I would do a quick sanity check on insurance rates. I am in NJ, married and unfortuantely have an 18 year old in college which, as with everything in NJ, I am getting screwed for. Suprisingly my rate quote on a 991 C4S was the same as my BMW M6 @ $2400 per year.

What are other folks seeing for quotes, very interested to hear from those in the NY/NJ area.............

I'm paying 1800/year with Geico. 3 other cars with them, and a 16 yo who doesn't have his license yet.

Play around w/ the deductible and try consolidating companies to save a little.

Thanks guys for the feedback at least I know I'm in the ballpark for those in the tristate area. Deductible is $500 right now so yes could play around with it but just wanted to see how far off I was compared to others in the area. Having a son in NJ between 17 and 25 really kills your insurance, my friend who has 2 daughters of driving age does not get half as screwed as I do, his rates went up $800 for the yer total. When my son got his license my insurance jumped $3500!!!!

Can't you exclude younger drivers from your Porsche insurance to reduce rates?

Not in NJ no, everyone of driving age in your residence (note not even in possession of a license) must be declared on your insurance.

What about things like:

Good student discounts?
Limiting mileage?
No work commuting?
No school commuting?

Here in CA, $765 with $1000 comp & coll ded. No kids on the policy though. I thought CA was one of the highest states for car insurance but NJ sounds crazy.

Not concerned about paying the premium if its kinda inline with what others are paying in the area. My son does qualify for good student discount and my cost includes his good student discount, drivers Ed discount and advanced driver course discount NJ sucks for property taxes and insurance, only one answer to that but I'm not moving my commute is only 20 mins each way to te office
