Default Roof Transport System: One Man Job?

Just wondering how tough it is to install and remove the roof transport system by yourself without damaging the roof with scratches and dings.

Anyone try this? How did it go?

Very easy. Ordered mine with the car and it was delivered attached. The *** clowns in Germany wedged them into the backseat so there are permanent indents in the plastic and the *** clowns at the dealer tightened the small Allen screws with air tools but it's a simple one man job to install and remove. What you're carrying up top may be a different story though.

I ordered mine with the car as well - i hope I don't suffer the same fate - i can at least tell the dealer NOT to install!

[IMG][/IMG]Definitely! The attachment system itself is different than the 997 where there isn't a trap door concealing the pickup points, rather you move aside a rubber gasket that acts as weather guard, so I could see that needing to be replaced over time.

@008 - nice - I wonder how well it works with the glass roof? Also - what do you carry?

Thanks, all, that's very good to know. I didn't order it with the car, but can see getting it in the not too distant future.

<-- Landed in Davisville RI two days ago.

Should work just as well with the glass I would think but I don't have a sunroof.

I haven't carried anything significant on it yet but it will eventually have a Yakima basket with my track wheels and tires. Maybe the kids on longer trips.

IIRC, my Cayenne came with a special Allen head torque tool to make sure it's not over torqued when installing on the roof, did/does the 911 come with the same tool?

Are your kids strong enough to hold on on the freeway?!?

It does, with a plastic torque handle.

They're pretty tough, but I'd strap them into their car seats. The 991 now has a latch system!

I find 2 Yakima baskets work better - one for the track wheels/tires, and one left at home to hold the kids for the w/e while you're away!

You're making a lot of sense! I call that basket (case) grandma.
