Default 997 Twin exhaust tips will fit on 991 C2

Posted a question a few weeks ago to determine if I could put 997 S twin exhaust tips on a 991 C2. Learned that they will not fit a 991 S but didn't get a definitive answer so did some research at local dealership by measuring the width of exhaust on a 997 compared to a 991 C2.

Convinced myself they would fit and then found an almost new 997 S takeoff of the twin tip exhaust on ebay. They arrived this week and tonight pulled off the original tips and tried the 997 tips.

Initially thought I had made a mistake but soon realized that a removable ring on the inside of the tips was slightly out of round and was keeping me from getting on the tip where it should be. Local Porsche dealer is a friend so drove to the dealership and their head mechanic quickly ( I mean less than a minute) used a pipe expander to straighten the ring. Should say got it back in round. Both tips went on like new. After lining up and making sure they were straight we were done. Ten minutes max to exchange. Paid 235 for the tips and am a happy camper.

Awesome.. and congrats on your new 991.

Just a couple of questions...

1) To clarify, if I could get a brand new set or a perfect set that was not "out of round", they would fit perfectly without modification, or forcing them on or anything of the sort?
2) What is the finish of these? Are they the polished kind or the brushed / flat finish that comes standard on the 991 C2?

And a pic of the mod would be great.

Default exhaust tips

Marcus and Rpilot, hoping the pictures attach to my reply. If not will try again. To answer the questions:

1) I would call them polished stainless steel. They are for sure not shiny or chrome. Same material I think as the OEM tips that I took off the car.
2) As for fit I cant say for sure that brand new right out of the box would fit but I would be very very surprised if they would not. These were off a generation 1 997. I am told the generation 2 tips will for sure fit but the gen1 depended upon whether the car they came off of was an S or just a C2. These went on so easy after fixing the out of round inner ring that I have to believe out of the box would fit as easy as these. Can get you the part number if you l ike

The left one needs to be rotated just slightly counterclockwise. But they look great!

Those look really nice. Similar to the sports tailpipes that I have on my 2014 C2.

Boxter guy, sorry i just saw your reqeust.

Just to clarify, given that your avitar name is boxter guy, are you putting this on a 991 or a Boxter. If it's a 991 you should be fine, but if it is a Boxter I need to explain.

I'm not that familiar with the exhaust tips on a boxter but my recollection was they are in the middle. If so just make sure you understand there is in fact a right and left exhaust tip for a 991. The difference is that on each side the pipe on the inside protrudes a bit more than the one on the outside. i dont think it will look right on a boxter if in fact the tip is in the middle.

Sure dont mean to tell you how to dress up your car just dont want you to order something and then it not work. Here you go on part numbers.
