Default Battery Removal Question

I remove my battery for winter storage as there is no available AC power in the facility where I store the car.

My question is, on the 991 there is a large metal strap that sits about an inch above the top of the battery. It looks like it will have to be removed in order to get the battery out. Wondering what its purpose is and whether I should bother reinstalling it when I put the battery back in as it looks like it will be a real pain to remove/reinstall. .

Can you post a picture? Sounds like the hold down strap/bar.

Yes that holds the battery down and you probably don't want to drive without it. It is also required for most track days, if you ever do that kind of thing.

If you read the manual about the things that have to get reset when the car has the battery removed (window up position, steering, etc) you may want to see if you can get power and a trickle charger to the car. If not, it's prob not that bad to deal with as long as you don't close the front trunk or lock the doors. Again, read the manual.

Definitely reinstall the strap when you're done.
Batteries are extremely volatile things and terribly underestimated in terms of the danger they pose.
One bump and those terminals could short your entire car...

Here's a simple tip. Snap a photo with your cell phone. In 5-6 months you'll forget how it went in. You'll want to make sure in the spring you get the polarity correct. And make sure you reconnect the event tube.
