Default A month owning a 991 C2S

Hello Porsche fans!

New 991 C2S owner here. I traded in my 2012 BMW 135i m-sport after only owning it for thirteen months to get myself the 991. Even though I was happy with the BMW there was this certain mystique about a 911. Like a moth drawn to a super expensive flame... after some haggling with the wife we pulled the trigger and visited the dealership.

My first impressions of the test drive (nerves + awful rain aside) was that you really had to push the car to make it go quick - as opposed to the low-end torque in my 135i. This did not deter me, however - as I knew car would run rings around my 135i in every area. The super-sharp brakes also shocked me. I thought my 135i had sharp brakes - but these are in a different league. A mere tap of the pedal in the test drive would abruptly jerk the car - amazing.

My 991 likes:
* Auto stop/start (nice option!)
* Interior is gorgeous - far more refined than my 135i
* Dark wheels hide brake dust (hah!)
* Steering is good. Coming from my 135i it feels right at home.
* Power leg extenders in the seats.

My dislikes:
* Cup holder often swings around in a turn.
* No commercial car wash wants to touch me! I'm not one for self-washing. Dealer informs me each wheel is worth $2500.
* More leather could come as standard on a 120k+ vehicle.
* No BMW Assist / on-star feature
* No Engine start/stop button - Come on!

The verdict is still out on if I truly believe that my 991 - which cost almost three times more than my 135i is worth the added expense - based on what I get out of it as a daily driver. Time will tell.

I also have to give a big thank you / mention to my local Porsche dealership. Compared to my local BMW dealership the experience was like night and day. The Porsche guys did EVERYTHING to make my experience extremely easy and enjoyable... they totally surpassed all my expectations as a car dealership. You can tell that they are true Motorsport enthusiasts as they give me some free local track time too!
Bluegrass Auto - THANK YOU!

My experience with my local BMW dealer last year was laughable... The salesman and his finance manager were quibbling over how much fuel to give me on a brand new car... A FULL TANK is the right answer. Porsche filled it up without a second thought.

Anything else?
I regret not purchasing a model with the glass sunroof - I was limited by dealer inventory. I also miss keyless entry, although without a real engine start/stop button it's probably a less than perfect experience anyways.

I do get some amazing comments from just about everybody, though.

Obligatory picture!

You're not missing a thing with Keyless entry. Without a stop/start button they kinda missed the point.
Your cup holder shouldn't swing under any circumstance.

Do you still have orange side markers on that white car? Blasphemy!!

Nice! Btw, your cup holder locks into place - just fold the horizontal cover trim piece up after the cup holder is extended.

I kept my 1 for winter duty!

I definitely missed the low end torque of the 135. The 991 in non-sport mode felt slower to me. Definitely come alive in sport mode.

0. Congrats on the beautiful car!

1. Try the clear side markers - you may like them.

2. Commercial car wash? Yikes. I guess if you don't mind swirl marks...

If you loved your $120k+ car, you would wash it yourself the right way! Is there at least a hand washing or mobile detailer near you, if you don't want to assume the task?

exactly. Plus, with the deionizer, washing it is very quick.

No hand washes available nearby unfortunately, sans the odd high-school event. There are a few detailers but it's all appointment based and I'd be without the car for at least the day or afternoon.

It's not so much washing the car that bothers me - it's drying it effectively. After a hand wash of the BMW I noticed that rust appeared in a very visible yet very awkward spot behind a wheel but not on the disc. This was all but impossible to remove. Without an effective / cost-efficient way to dry my wheels after a hand wash I am hesitant to do it to my Porsche!

RE: Deionizer - Would purchasing a portable deionizer be the way to go? Or just purchase a gallon or two of purified water from the grocery store for each wash?

I may look in to those Air Force Blaster portable dryers a bit closer now that I've seen small units retailing around $69.99 - I originally saw them for in excess of $400 and figured that would buy me a lot of regular car washes... that said, $70 would still buy me a fair amount of regular car washes... if dealers would let me go through arghh!

Thanks!

-Cupholder swinging not normal, let the dealer check that out !

-Engine start button clashes with racing heritage. 24h of Le Mans racing, key on the left to get faster starts after/while hopping in the car ...

Does anyone use a 'no-touch' wash?

Would you still miss the glass sunroof if it made the top of your car black instead of white? I am wanting to pull the trigger on a white 991 and am debating glass vs steel...

Here are some pics of a gentleman who wrapped his roof in 3M Gloss Black vinyl.
Has the same visual effect as a glass roof and looks very nice (IMHO)
