More PSE questions
I'm thinking about adding PSE to my base Carrera ...
I went over to the dealer and got my favorite salesguy to fire up a Carrera S that has it from the factory. He revved it up for me with the PSE off and then with the PSE on, and aside from a few extra pops and crackles coming off revs, to be honest, it didn't sound all that different to me.
My understanding is the Carrera S exhaust has some of the same components that the PSE exhaust replaces on the base Carrera. Has anyone compared the sound of the base Carrera's exhaust with the non-PSE Carrera S exhaust?
I know they are different engines and will sound different, but I'm curious how much the exhaust sound changes on the base Carrera with the PSE. If it's that subtle, I'm not sure it would be worth the $4k to do it.
If anyone has a base Carrera with PSE in the Rhode Island area, I would love to hear it sometime.

Unlike many other cars, including my former ZO6, revving my 991S at idle does little to show the difference between PSE and stock; the difference is quite apparent at speed.
4K sounds a little steep for the install, perhaps you should check with a few other dealers.

Parts at Suncoast for the S are 2500.00 and 3,000.00 for the non S. Approximately nine hours labor to install.
I'm toying with idea also but not there yet. I have no explanation for cheaper parts on the S.

For those of you contemplating PSE, I'm coming off a base w/o PSE because i, like you, could not justify the $3K option. don't get me wrong the base exhaust w sound imposer is pretty good as is.
However I now upgraded to an S w PSE and I will tell you with high degree of confidence you will thank yourself for getting it.
I too was skeptical at 1st, but now that I have it, its worth every penny. Would not order my next 911 without it, its that good. And as the other post mentions you don't really get the full experience trying it standing still, you have to drive it. -jb

I went to the dealer today and quoted around $ 3,700 for the upgrade to PSE. I have a base Carrera and a bit hesitant.. I had Cayman S with PSE and it sounded great, I don't know the difference for 991 base model but I could tell that my car doesn't have any exhaust noise below 4,000 and it's too soft and smooth compared to Cayman S..

Have PSE on a base C2 and its the one option I couldn't give up. The exhaust takes a few minutes to warm up before the pops and burbles become more prevalent. It makes your car sound like a Supercup or GT3 RSR. Well worth the cost for the smile it will put on your face everyday.
