Has anyone used a BlendMount to mount a V1 in their 991? If so, how do you like it? www.blendmount.com
Darn, you had me going there for a sec!! Checked and still only for the type 1 mirror...I'd get one in a heartbeat if they made the type 2! Would be awesome to be able to switch the Escort between vehicles...I do have the Blendmount on my other vehicle and it's a nice product, works great, semi stealth and nice finish.
They've been in R&D forever. I've seen many "real soon now" email updates from them. Don't watch this space.
The "blendmount" is simply a two-piece collar clamp that screws into the Valentine 1 factory windshield sucker mount so I suggest you just take a windshield mount, remove the suckers, pull a couple of zipties through and cinch 'em down a small wedge shaped spacer block so the V1 is reasonably secure in place.

Hmmm, I'm using mine with an Escort 9500ci and the Blendmount attaches directly to the mirror stalk and is a nice looking piece. I probably wouldn't consider trying to "rig" something for my Porsche, want it to be clean looking and semi-stealth. Don't mind spending the $80 or so on a nice mount.

That's what I'm describing -- $80 for a collar clamp that uses the V1 bracket, fine, if you want to make it that way, or, for "no money fun" there's the DIY hack I described, and it's neatly hidden behind the mirror, you can't see it, but yes, give or take $80, a neat finish in a $100K car is a sufferable largesse. I think it should be $25 and they'd sell four times as many ... : |

After reading numerous comparison reviews, I bought a 9500ix today. Which Blendmount are you using?

What made you choose the Escort? I've got a V1 in everything that moves and I'm thinking of getting the Escort just to try the "other" brand. Plus, Escort seems to be living in a year somewhere circa 2012 or 2013 while Valentine is still circa 1995. The new "app" for V1 is pretty cool (though you have to buy an add-on thing and looking at a smart phone while you're driving isn't exactly clear to the eyes or smart) but I think the V1 is great, only it could do with some of the actually functional bells (sorry) and whistles like GPS and traffic radar and crowd-sourced trap location sharing.
As for the mount, I think it's this one, but I'm sure they'll confirm during the order process:

Wait... so you are using a Blendmount on a 991 mirror with an Escort 9500ix?
I thought that their website said that it was only compatible with "Type 1" mirrors (which look to be non-auto-dimming).
Can you snap a photo of your installed detector? I'd love to do this myself, but I had thought it wasn't compatible.

Thanks, if you can!
Sorry for the confusion, I'm using the Blendmount with my Escort 9500ix on my other vehicle, was commenting that I wish Blendmount would come out with a mount for the Type 2 mirror, I'd love to be able to switch the 9500ix between both vehicles...I'm almost ready to give up on Blendmount and take the plunge on the "custom built in" Escort detector for the my C2S, but the price of $2,500 has me hesitating! Having said that, I just got a ticket last week and after all is said and done, it's going to cost me $600 bucks between fine, fees and Traffic school fees!

Park, sorry I can never remember the right model but I have the same Escort that you just purchased, the 9500ix. It's a great detector, with the red light camera database and the auto false alarm cancellation feature enabled by the GPS - its an awesome detector and has saved me many tickets. While I don't drive dangerously or recklessly, I do drive over the speed limit on the freeways - just like everyone else (including law enforcement) and can't stand the thought of being gouged on my insurance premiums just for doing what everyone else is doing. If you were to drive 65mph here in SoCal you would be run off the road! Sorry, I digress, but I have yet to find a nice, stealth mirror mount for the Type 2 Porsche mirror stalk. Once you have experimented with your new ix, just set it to Auto mode and let it do it's thing, it will identify and automatically cancel false alarms and give you plenty of advanced warning on LEO radar. Even works on LIDAR, but much smaller warning window as LIDAR is instant on!

I also like the audio announcement of the type of radar so I don't have to look at the readout, I can tell right away if it's serious or not (Ka or LIDAR band in CA). Mine has alerted me several miles in advance of a CHP speed trap. Was in a hilly area and it would come on briefly then go off then on again then off - I thought hmmm, something is not right with this radar detector, but slowed down anyways and low and behold a couple of hills and a curve later it lit up like a New Years Eve party and there he was - on the side of the road zapping folks like crazy...saved me a certain ticket that time (paid for itself already).
And, no I don't own stock in Escort, just very happy with the 9500ix, was pricy but WELL worth it!

Carrera, Escort now has the same "live app" where you can connect via an app on your Iphone with other Escort users and it will give you real time updates on nearby radar traps...not sure exactly how it works but I do like the Escort due to the real time GPS ability to locate stationary radar (mostly x band and Kband) that if they are in the same exact position 3 times that you drive by, it will cancel the alarm (you can choose to override it) but it is great for eliminating false alarms like supermarket doors, stationary K band speed readout signs, etc. The red light camera database (which you can update via their website) is cool for cities that use a lot of red light cameras as well. Active detection sensitivity is great and has saved me quite a few times on the freeways. Funny I have a LEO neighbor who is a good guy and he tells me that they sometimes leave their K band radar on as it warns folks with detectors to slow down which can if fact slow others down as well. I have no experience with the Valentine (although I know folks who swear by them), what do you most like about the Valentine detectors?
