"A base 911 with a bunch of luxury options for $78k" . . . "a 991S with no options for $91k" OK, Hudyman, I'll bite: Where?

Come on guys- really! You can't tell me you are paying full sticker for these new Porsches! The dealers are pulling one over on you. Trick is to buy inventory that is on the dealer showroom floor. They have the upper hand when you spec and order. Find something they have spec'ed and have not sold for 90+ days... I bet you get 10-15% off sticker. Dealer demos are also genius buys on most occasions.
I have bought Porsches from 3 different dealers in the Northeast and have gotten between $5-$15k off sticker.
Negotiate harder!!!

Makes sense, except if you want the car built to your specs and can't find one that way in inventory. Then you either settle, or order.

Porsche Cayman S vs Base 911
I just purchased a 2014 Cayman S in white, pretty optioned out with sports exhaust, sport chrono package, 20 inch Carerra S wheels, full leather - Bose Infotainment + , PDK transmission,my cost was around 85k.
I had a hard choice between the Base 911 as well (that was my original intent) this is my 8th Porsche that I have owned, to be honest, I would have preferred the 911, but after looking at the design of the Cayman (that slick GT look), I think that when people look at it, it has the "what is that" look above the classic 911. The cayman really shines the best in the "S" version only, 325 HP, it is the same 3.4 liter engine as the base 911, just detuned by 25hp, it rocks.. especially with the sport exhaust , that sound is phenomenal. It definitely from a track standpoint handles a lot better than the 911 because of the mid - engine design. If you optioned out the 911 with the same as I did on the Cayman S, it would be around 105 - 108k, The bottom line is, it's really a matter of preference, if you just have to have a "911" for sake of saying you have a 911, get it. But if you want a "damn good looking Porsche" that performs damn near the same for 20,000 less in price, go for the Cayman S

It does not handle "a lot better". It just handles differently.

It does not rocket out of corners like the 911. It does not have the grip of a 911, it does not look as good as a 911. Driving 911 vs Cayman S back to back on an autocross course is telling. The Cayman is loose and playful, the 911 is planted and fast. It is like choosing between two supermodels! Why not have both?

I have owned a '96 993 C4S for ten years. A Boxster came and went, as did an M3. I now have a well optioned '07 Cayman S. It is is a daily driver and frequent track car. The 993 pulls garage queen duty, is lovely to look at and fulfills my "gotta have a 911" fetish. Never thought I would consider selling it.
I want PDK now and am looking at the new 981 Cayman S to replace the 987. I test drove one this weekend and was very impressed. The problem is I also test drove a well optioned 991S. OMG I loved it. The Cayman was great. But the 991 spoke to me.
Trouble is, to afford it I really need to sell both the 987 and the 993. And still have to toss in buckets of cash. It's a heart wrenching decision that I still don't have an answer for. But it has brought me over from the 993 forum here to start researching 991's. so for now I will just torture myself.

You love the 991, it speaks to you. I get that, it was the same with me. Get the 991 or there will be expensive regrets afterwards.
