Despite the shorter wheelbase, it inspired more confidence

I think when history is written, the 997 will be considered a pinnacle of driver involvement and technology
You should have taken a 991S with PDCC. No regrets here.

Dr. Porsche should arise from the grave, saunter the factory, and kick some sense back into the Suits that either forgot or don’t give a rat’s **** what a 911 stands for. Shame on them. And shame on you for drinking their Kool Aid.
The new 911S drives by any prior model 911S on road or track. That is a Porsche tradition for oh, about 50 years.

I love that you have had almost every Mercedes Benz. Stay balling my friend.

With that said, this is my first 911 and I would not have been a buyer of the 997. I am not sure what that says about me but its the truth. I require mild pampering I suppose.

991S with PDDC is simply sublime. Closest to perfection I've ever driven. This coming from someone who had a Boxster Spyder which was fantastic in it's own right.

So everything except the wheelbase is within an inch difference, the wb is a whopping 2". If the 991 is too big, then so was the 997. 911's will never go back to the dimensions of their 80's designed air-cooled brethren.
With the new rear wheel steering now on the GT3 and Turbo the cars will feel like a shorter wheelbase but have the advantage of the longer wheelbase.
Look for this feature to be available on all models soon. It just makes sense! The smaller the turning radius the more nimble and fun to drive the car will be.
Just like the 997.

The interior of the 997 really was looking quite outdated.

I've owned a 996 Cab, a 997.2 C2S, a 997.1 Turbo and now the 991 C2S with SPASM and no PDCC. I love the 991. I think the steering has less feel than the other cars, but the weighting is perfect. The suspension is much better controlled, the interior is beautiful and much higher quality than the 997. I don't miss the 997.2 at all, and the turbo only when I need to accelerate hard. (600hp is pretty addicting, but overall, I like NA motors.)

Anyway, I don't find the 991 C2S to feel big at all, it feels the same size as the 997 to me, with better turn in and more stability. That said, I'm coming from an E92 M3 and a 997 as my last primary driver, both of which are much much heavier. But, my 997.2 C2S was heavier on scales than my 991 is.

Couldn't agree more. The 997 all the way. My last purchase will be a 2012 tt [997] manual and that will be it for me.

Interesting to see all the perspectives!

I've been driving the 991 more since original post and liking it more. It really got to 145 mph quickly yesterday!

Since 1983 I have had 20 new MB's and my 991 S is my 7th new Porsche. You are obviously not familiar with MB cars.

The 991 S is the best 911 to date just as the next generation 911 will be better than this one.

Default Increased wheelbase

Note that the wheelbase for the 991 is 96.46in, a significant 3.9in (100mm) increase over the 997 wheelbase. The rest of the dimensions are more or less the same (notably, the length is roughly the same). This increase in wheelbase is probably what everyone is arguing about.

Also the front track is 2" wider but the car remained the same width.

i owned 997.2 c4s, 997.2 tt and a couple months ago, traded tt for a new 991 c2s (couldnt quite wait for 991 tt, but God willing, i will find my self in one in less than couple years.) I am positively bewildered by those who prefer 997 to 991. But then again, this world is full of folks who claim Blackberry is superior iPhone etc. If you are reading this blog undecided about what to purchase, do yourself a favor and go test drive a 991. Been driving it like i stole it from day 1 and man can this thing fly! the engine revs sweet and free from 4k-7k rpm with wicked sport exhaust attack. I'm in love with my car!
