Default Fuel gauge issue in C4/C4s

Not sure if this has been covered in a previous post but for all you C4(S) drivers out there. There is a problem with the fuel gauge. It happened to me with 2100 miles on the car but the gauge can read incorrectly once you get down to a quarter tank. I found this out the hard way when I ran out of gas and had to have a flat bed take it to the dealer. My gauge got stuck at a 1/4 tank until the tank went dry. Porsche is working on a software patch but it isn't out. Keep an eye on you fuel gauge and if it doesn't drop below. 1/4 tank refuel ASAP!

How long did you drive on a quarter tank?

I'm guessing 3 day and approx 60 miles. It dawned on me after the car was at the dealer that I was at 1/4 of a tank since Sat and I had broken down on Monday.

Who would ever think to doubt a brand new gauge? Hope they make it right!

That sucks. You would think Porsche would put out a bulletin in this so the 4(S) owners would keep an eye on their fuel consumption to prevent getting stranded on the side of the road.

Does it also affect the Distance to Empty reading?

I have read about this before. Apparently, it is a long-standing issue with the saddle design fuel tank on the four wheel drive models. Crazy. Not something you would expect to (or should have to) deal with on a $125,000+ car.

Not sure. I haven't tried playing with it since my incident.

I've run out of gas as a result of this also. I've noticed if I'm driving the car when I go below 1/4 tank, the light will come on. If I don't refuel and shut down, when it's restarted the fuel gauge will show slightly above 1/4 and will stay pegged there until refueled. I've started to reset the mileage when I fill up so I know how much fuel I actually have in the tank. Come on Porsche! Can't you fix this?

There is an open campaign for that issue and a pdk update. contact your dealer. I had mine done a month ago.

No, that would make far too much sense.

It's apparently better to leave your customers stranded on the side of the road. That way (in time) you can easily deduce which ones are the affected vehicles and save money on a full recall.

Every campaign that has been applied to my car (with the exception of one) I read about on these informative forums, only to then have to ask for it to be applied.

I had the update applied - interesting to note that my dealer was trying to replace the fuel pump until I called after reading this thread and asked them to check the fuel level - car still reads incorrectly after the update.

Would one think this applies to the Turbos as well?

Just a thought, but personally I'd let the dealer replace the fuel pump. I had some fleet vehicles (non-Porsche) that ran out of fuel and the driver didn't know the problem, and in an attempt to start the car overheated the fuel pump causing it to fail.
