My 991S wants an oil change at 4k miles
The "change oil now" message came up on my car with 4,200 miles on it. I have changed the oil at 2,500 miles but never reset anything, partly because I was not sure how but mostly because I intended to change it again at 10,000 miles anyway.
I have no problems changing it, but find it curious that the car thinks it needs it so long before the "normal" service interval. I have done lots of track days and am wondering if that is it. I also doubt that it really needs to be changed as it only has about 2,000 miles of use.
Has anybody else seen this on their car? Do you think the warning will reset automatically if I do change the oil?

I don't know 4500 sounds pretty good to me. That means by the time I can afford the car it will only have 22500 miles on the clock.
All you 991 owners should drive less in fact and preserve those cars for us future 991 owners

Well don't worry too much about low miles, I have managed to wear out two sets of brake pads and a set of tires in that time. Lots of "quality" miles (track days and a bit of canyon carving) if not too much quantity. It is certainly not a garage queen.
Tim K, thanks for the note on changing the oil not resetting the service indicator. I figured it would not be that simple, but nice to know.

The first time I changed the oil, I did it myself and think it was about $5 a quart for Mobil 1 and $20-ish for the filter and such. It is quite easy to change. I will let you know what the local dealer charges, but historically they are pretty expensive.
