Wink Earth day post: Hyper-miling the 991

Been optimizing my driving for maximum mileage for the past 3500 miles or so - wanted an even 70 mpg but I've given up at the indicated 69.2 mpg. Who needs an EV?

I have the tires are pumped to 50 psi, all of the intakes are blocked off, I shut the car off and roll up to intersections avoiding having to brake, never downshift (those throttle blips waste gas), windows up and no A/C, and I changed the oil to 0W-20 right after break-in. I always try to get into 7th gear as soon as possible of course, and only drive it when the trip should be optimal for fuel economy.

Some future mods are getting rid of the wide, sticky, gas wasting tires and figuring out a way to bypass some of the 6 cylinders.

I have my kids get out and push the car back up to 5 or 6mph after stops at intersections since it's all the lights/stop signs that really destroy in-town mileage, but I haven't gotten anywhere near your impressive figures.

Using prevailing wind patterns is definitely on my to-do list as well - it may make the timing of trips more unpredictable, but if sailors could manage that thousands of years ago, I'm pretty sure I can manage it too - and just imagine the fuel savings when working with 10-20mph gusts at your back!

Sounds like you could use a Prius and not a Porsche...

I do my part be riding the bumpers of semis. I don't mind the stone chips; I know it's for a good cause.

As I was reading all that- no acceleration, low RPM's, coasting as much as possible the first 3,500 miles- isn't that pretty much the factory recommended break-in?

69MPG??? That is brilliant! I had a friendly wager with a friend who owned an M3 about who could get the most mpg-I won of course. We have also had our cars up well below the 6-8mpg. Enjoy the car in whatever way makes you happy.

No kidding! The only way the 991 will get over about 33 mpg is off a cliff.
I think my trip computer glitched at some point and "forgot" the gallons used, for a while it was showing in the 100's of mpg!
